Overview

Operations and Development Engineer A global telecommunications company is looking for an Operations and Development Engineer to join their established satellite operations team on a permanent basis, to assist them with a project to deliver ground control capability for a new customer. Working initially with senior developers and operations engineers, the new Operations and Development Engineer will build sufficient familiarity and understanding of their satellite support system to enable them to work autonomously and to offer guidance and expertise where appropriate. Requirements analysis and discussions with stakeholders will identify software extensions required, motivating software development activity. A flexible attitude is essential to ensure that the delivered system meets the customer's requirements. Key Responsibilities: Support the SOSG team: Familiarisation with the product Requirement analysis for the project including prospective enhancements Propose and document design changes required by the new project Review technical documentation Write technical documentation such as Interface Control Documents, User & Software Requirements Documents, Test plans, procedures and reports and Compliance statements Gain an understanding of automation capabilities and how to integrate the support system within an operational SCC Implement design changes and enhancements required by the project (Coding in C++ / Corba) Perform acceptance tests and dry-runs Support external customers QUALIFICATIONS Essential Knowledge and Skills: Relevant University degree or equivalent, e.g. Computer Science/STEM, Experience of software requirements analysis Able to work efficiently and collaboratively with stakeholders, technical teams and third parties Technical design and ability to solve complex problems Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Experience within the space industry Proficiency in Linux and distributed computing Integration and systems testing Understanding of spacecraft operations C++ and experience of agile software development Java Participation in software architecture and design discussions Knowledge of databases (e. g. PostGres, Oracle) TCP/IP protocol and sockets Excellent spoken and written communication skills CORBA Appreciation of IT security ADDITIONAL INFORMATION You must be eligible to work in this location advertised. Have a suitable background to maintain UK security clearance.
