Consulting Arboriculturist | Bowland Tree Consultancy Ltd, Preston | £22,000 - £30,000 | Permanent The company: Bowland Tree Consultancy Ltd is a small arboricultural consultancy company based in Preston. Established over 10 years ago, we are a highly successful business who pride ourselves in providing a first class specialist service to a wide range of clients. The role: The key purpose of the role is to deliver an efficient, effective and exemplary arboricultural consultancy service to our existing clients, and to increase our client base where opportunities arise. You will work as part of a small team in a dynamic and client focused commercial environment, often to strict deadlines and demands. The main duties of the role: To carry out arboricultural consultancy work including, but not restricted to: Servicing: To undertake tree surveys and provide advice for housing developers, utility companies, and other clients, in relation to planning and development, using the principles of BS5837:2012; To produce high quality, written development and planning related arboricultural reports and AutoCAD based plans to supply to clients to inform development designs and to support planning applications; To advise a range of clients on matters relating to Tree Preservation Orders, trees within Conservation Areas, and other legal constraints; To undertake tree risk assessment surveys for a variety of clients, including land management companies, golf courses, and estate owners; To provide advice and produce high quality reports in relation to tree risk management, in line with all current best practice and legislation; To prepare high quality specifications for recommended tree works, in accordance with BS3998:2010, to supply to clients; To produce high quality management plans for tree populations, including veteran trees, woodlands, estates, etc.; and To manage and service on-site implementation of works, involving the supervision of a variety of contractors, where required. Sales: To develop and nurture business with existing clients through establishing good working relationships and identifying opportunities for follow-on work; To identify and act on new business opportunities; and To prepare quotes and, as required, assist with larger tenders. Contract Management: To manage small scale arboricultural contracts whilst delivering the projects on time, to the client’s satisfaction and to the quoted costs. General: To carry out all tasks flexibly, efficiently and reliably whilst working both individually and as part of the team; To take responsibility for their own projects and workload; To work towards the success and progression of the company as a whole; and, To carry out other work as instructed by the Company Director, commensurate with the level of the job. The successful candidate: Will be a self-motivated individual with a professional manner. Excellent communication skills are a must and experience of liaising with both internal and external stakeholders would be highly advantageous. In turn, delivering a first-class service will be second nature to you. Essential criteria: An arboricultural qualification to Level 5 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) (or equivalent); A broad knowledge and understanding of current arboricultural legislation and the UK’s planning system in relation to trees; A practical working knowledge of the application of the principles of BS5837:2012 in the preparation of reports and plans; Extensive technical experience in surveying and inspecting trees, including the use of associated hardware and software; An understanding of project budgetary constraints and targets; Proficiency in the use of industry standard software including applicable Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD; Good tree, pest and disease identification skills, with good understanding of tree biology and tree biomechanics; A full UK driving licence; and A capacity and a willingness to travel nationwide, where necessary, for work related matters. Desirable criteria: Two years’ experience in the arboricultural consultancy sector; Effective experience in the preparation of fee proposals; Experience of project management; Chartered arboriculturist status with the Institute of Charted Foresters (MICFor); Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association (MArborA); LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection qualification; Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) licence holder; Natural England bat survey licence (at any level) and associated experience in this field What’s on offer for the successful candidate: A competitive salary dependent on qualifications and experience 28 days’ holiday, inclusive of Bank Holidays Options for flexible working arrangements A contributory pension scheme Payment of up to two annual professional membership fees Bowland Tree Consultancy Ltd. is an equal opportunities employer.
