Ability to work in production and service/customer support: mechanically putting together and supporting the product that has been designed is a key requirement as is the ability to work with the Electronics Engineers within the team Mechanical Engineer - The Role: As a Product Design Mechanical Engineer , you will be responsible for helping to create a new generation of innovative products as well as helping to improve the current range of products as both customers and changes in technologies demand. You will design, prototype and help deploy precision electro-mechanical and optical instruments according to our R&D specifications (engineering is accredited to ISO13485) whilst maintaining a commercial awareness. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the design and production of parts and instruments, from submission of technical drawings through to manufacturing. In this challenging Product Design role you will use a variety of methods ( sketches, models, CAD, 3D animations) to develop and convey concept ideas; taking these through to fully detailed 3D CAD models, whilst ensuring products are designed for ease of manufacture and test as well as to meet high quality standards. You will be required to produce and follow project and product documentation to ISO13485 and be able to adopt a hands-on approach as and when the project requires You will take responsibility for the full product lifecycle: from early concepts and prototypes, to full production and upgrades. To this end, you will work closely with colleagues from sales and manufacturing as well as with suppliers to ensure technical and commercial success. Naturally curious, you will seek to uncover new and better solutions to everyday problems by applying sound engineering principles and your experience to technical issues. Interested? To be considered for the role of Product Design Mechanical Engineer, you ideally would: Possess at least one years’ experience, ideally three, in a mechanical and/or product design environment Have experience of managing projects from initial sketching and modelling through to prototyping and all stages of the development process. Have a strong background in the use of 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and a familiarity with a range of processes and development techniques including plastic moulding, metal forming, cable layout and complex assemblies. Have creative problem-solving skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to handle multiple projects at once. Possess strong all-round mechanical design experience, including designing for manufacture, material selections, moulded components, tolerances, mechanisms, engineering mathematics, concept generation, rapid prototyping. Have well developed Innovative design ideas for a leading-edge range of products Be able to present a portfolio of work, including a sketchbook or workbook demonstrating creative problem-solving abilities.
