Overview
Our client, based in Guildford is looking for a Infrastructure Systems Engineer to provide technical expertise in the day to day administration, implementation and maintenance of the Engineering IT Infrastructure used for the Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) of its systems. You will be applying expertise to the business critical Engineering Infrastructure i.e., development and administration of network, servers, storage, virtual infrastructure and security management. IT project support for the delivery of systems. Trouble shooting and resolution of issues. Responsible for application installation, configuration, testing, support and documentation efforts for all apps as required to support engineering and project activities. Key Tasks: •Supporting Engineering Infrastructure services through design and project briefs. Understanding internal engineering requirements and building scalable solutions •Implementing new infrastructure services through project schedules and change management •Routine maintenance of infrastructure services such as firmware updates, system upgrades and virtual infrastructure management •Provision of 3rd/4th line services within the Service Desk resolving escalated incidents in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the Helpdesk SLA’s •Update infrastructure and software and rationalise where possible to bring in line with the corporate systems •Maintain Docker platform with multiple essential applications hosted •Ensuring interoperability / compatibility of existing ground segment software and hardware with new operating systems and future upgrades •Work with the Engineering Teams to define and maintain a disaster recovery policy covering hardware and software •Develop and maintain documentation, describing the hardware and software configuration across the company's engineering infrastructure •Work with Engineering Teams to coordinate down-time so as to minimise the impact to Engineering Operations Other tasks as directed by the IT Security and Infrastructure Manager and Engineering Managers. Candidate Requirements: •Degree level qualification in Computing, Science or equivalent MCSE, CCNA, VCP all an advantage but not necessary •Proven experience in an infrastructure support environment •Expertise in troubleshooting and support of VMware vSphere 6 •Microsoft server administration Linux administration •Good Hardware and Software support knowledge •Competent troubleshooting skills •Python scripting •Good understanding of TCP/IP networking •Team player with good communication skills •Ability to work under own initiative and in a busy environment Knowledge of one or more of the following would be advantageous: •Windows PowerShell scripting •UNIX experience •Docker experience •Database experience Storage technologies – NAS & iSCSI Index Recruitment is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
