Overview

Location: Cardiff Days & Hours: 15 hours per week, additional hours are available to cover sickness and annual leave. Hours are a mixture of shifts as per the rolling rota. Typical shifts are below; Term Time – Tuesday–Friday, 7.00am–10.00am and 3.30pm-10.00pm. Every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 7.00am-12.00pm and 12.00pm – 10.00pm. Overnight weekend shift, Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday, 10.00pm–9.00am School Holidays – Day and night shifts available, Monday-Sunday Pay: £10.51 per hour, Weekdays, £12.61 per hour, Weekends and National Living Wage (currently £8.21 per hour), Sleeping Night shifts. Driver required? Essential Driving Client’s Car? Yes, Oriana’s Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic vehicle Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend training Essential: Supporting young adults with complex needs. Desirable : Experience working with young children/adults with trauma and an interest in therapy. Family Pets: Fish and tortoise Accommodation (while on duty): Good sized double bedroom with en-suite. Additional use of an adult sitting room which is used rarely by the family. Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks) Oriana, born in 2003, is a delightful, happy, sociable young lady with a wicked sense of humour who likes to be involved with everything going on around her. She loves the outdoors and enjoys activities such as cycling, walks, shopping, bowling, dancing, cinema, pampering and watering the plants/vegetables in the garden. When she feels tired she will respond well to soothing activities like watching a DVD, soft music, mood lights and massage. Oriana has Cerebral Palsy resulting in physical and learning disabilities; she has complex health and care needs and requires 2:1 24-hour care and additional support to meet her day-to-day needs and assistance to attend/take part in a variety of activities. Oriana requires Support Workers to assist her in all aspects of daily living, including personal and domestic tasks, social and community activities. You will work closely with her parents, Case Manager, team of therapists and current Support Workers to follow instructions to ensure Oriana has the opportunity to develop her skills, promote independence and access social activities. It is truly rewarding role to assist this lovely young lady and become part of her care team. A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull. • Can demonstrate empathy and understanding in an appropriate and professional manner • A team player who understands the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team • Can develop productive and professional relationships with others • Actively creates an inclusive environment respecting diversity • Good organisational skills who can adhere to standards and quality requirements • Experience of working with young adults essential, preferably those with complex needs. • Interest in working with young adults with a disability. • Flexibility to meet the needs of Oriana, to cover sickness and annual leave for other team members. • Responsible attitude, reliable and trustworthy. • Proactive, encouraging approach. • The ability to learn new skills. • Cheerful with a positive outlook and sense of humour is essential. • Non-smoker. • Full driving license (endorsement(s) to be disclosed) and able to drive Oriana’s adapted automatic car. • Willingness to undertake relevant training. • Good communication, observation and reporting skills. • Able to maintain effective working relationships. • Confident about working in Oriana’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her parents. • Able to demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and privacy. • An ability to remain calm and cope in difficult or emergency situations. • Responsibility for personal conduct and an ability to work on your own initiative when necessary.
