Overview

CHAIR OF TRUSTEES Salisbury Museum is looking for a chairperson to lead the board of trustees in its exciting ongoing development. The museum is at a pivotal juncture in its history. In June 2019 the museum was awarded initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for our Salisbury Museum for Further Generations project. This £4.4 million project will enable the museum to transform its displays and facilities – completing the work started with the National Lottery funded Wessex Gallery of archaeology in 2014. The museum’s plans are also a central part of the developing cultural regeneration of the City of Salisbury. The museum is seeking someone with the necessary skills to lead the board as it undertakes this important transformational project. This individual would be involved in supporting the museum’s primary objectives of preserving its collections some of which are of international and national importance, extending its audiences, securing funds, supporting the upcoming capital project and the continued establishment of a modern, dynamic and exceptional museum by establishing a sustainable business model. Necessary skills would include supporting the museum director, working with fundraisers and representing the public face of the museum. Remuneration: This position is not remunerated but reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred fulfilling the duties of the role, including travel to meetings, are reimbursed. Location: Salisbury Museum. Time commitment: The chairperson is expected to attend four board meetings per year. Additionally he or she would chair monthly management meetings. They would also be invited to attend and represent Salisbury Museum at partnership events, meetings and functions. The term for this role is three years with the option for reappointment for a further three years.
