Job Description GfK UK are currently seeking to appoint an inquisitive and ambitious Marketing & Data Scientist, with a focus on processing and analysing large volumes of digital data. You will join highly respected Marketing & Data Science team within GfK. We are a specialist business unit of Statisticians and Marketing & Data Scientists who act as consultants for data/technical advice, as well as analytic support to research teams in the design & execution of client projects. You will be required to have a good background in handling large quantities of digital data as well as conducting analysis in client projects. You will enjoy the technical challenges that come from working with big data from different sources, as well as the application of analysis to answer key business questions. We will look to you to deliver robust, client-oriented analysis, and bring new ideas to the team as you grow in the role. The post holder will be expected to work comfortably with GBs’ worth of data, integrate data from different sources stored as separate data objects, and process them appropriately dependent on the types of analysis needed. We work with a range of different types of data, including unstructured data (e.g. social conversations, product reviews), behavioural data (e.g. digital engagements (e.g. search queries used, URLs visited, apps used…) tracked at an individual level of a digital panel), other digital data (e.g. search, social and web analytics) as well as survey responses and transactional/CRM data. You should have experience of conducting analysis using the data types outlined above in client projects e.g. customer user journey using behavioural data, analysing topics of conversations using unstructured data, applying digital metrics in brand studies, analysing impact of a (digital) campaign and other areas of marketing, brands and communications. We are looking for someone with a diverse range of skills and experience (incl. technical knowledge) in the following areas: Data handling skills: e.g. working in an database environment like Apache Spark/Hadoop, Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, creating queries to join data objects, interrogate and extract subsets of data from across multiple sources, data cleansing/preprocessing; Digital analytics: e.g. analysing web traffic, search metrics (e.g. SERPs, trend, paid) and social (paid, owned, shared / earned); Basic unstructured data processing e.g. regex, creating TermDocumentMatrix, basic cleansing e.g. stemming); Statistical skills e.g. significance testing; Analytic skills e.g. regression (Logistic, Linear, Non-linear), econometrics/marketing mix modelling, segmentation, conjoint, factor analysis. We don’t expect you to be an expert of all of the above, but a solid grounding in the first three areas, and a basic knowledge of the fourth and fifth are essential. Maintain a broad and deep understanding of quantitative research techniques, to be able to mention appropriate solutions to client problems. Develop an understanding of the limitations and possibilities of techniques and software packages. Promote new techniques and approaches as well as continuously review external developments Ensure high quality of all finished documents Key Competencies: Has a good understanding of advanced analytical research techniques - know when to use and recommend when appropriate. Be able to communicate to researchers the value of these techniques. Be well-organised, flexible, and demonstrate self-confidence, decisiveness and commitment. Other crucial aspects of the role are to be self-motivated, pro-active, and creative. Effective at communicating with clients and colleagues. Able to deliver analytic insights in an impactful and meaningful way. Good at managing researcher expectations. Demonstrate ability to manage tasks clearly and monitor progress, help manage and optimize workloads of the team. Good attention for detail - ensure all outputs delivered to clients/researchers are professionally presented and accurate. Good written skills, ability to help write proposals, reports and concise summary of findings. Is able to learn new methodologies and programming languages quickly. Manage own time effectively and ensure all project deadlines are met, act to resolve conflicts between projects. Good inter personal skills - treat others with respect, be co-operative, friendly and considerate of others. Be a good role model, help to build teamwork and team spirit. Be fully up to date with the requirements of the company’s quality systems, and ensure compliance. Experience & Qualifications: Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent in Statistics, Advanced Analytics, Data Science or related subject. Experience in a market research / digital agency. Advanced knowledge of R / Python. Good working knowledge of SQL Desirable Programming knowledge of VBA.
