Overview

Data Analyst Aberdeen – Ocean Sprit House, Waterloo Quay Reporting to: Head of IT Development Purpose of Role: The Data Analyst will be responsible for the design, development, delivery and maintenance of big data information product solutions and business intelligence reporting across GNS data platforms. You will work with both IT and development professionals as well as key stakeholders across GNS to understand the product data requirements, business reporting, analytics and data visualisation needs, ensuring data is understandable, accessible and accurate through interactive reporting solutions to drive informed decision making. Key Responsibilities: Consult and work with development teams to determine, execute and deliver relevant data driven solutions. Analyse current data information architectures and contribute to the design and development of data driven solutions. Translating business requirements into technical data specifications and reporting. Visualise data for product solutions and business systems through reports and queries. Gather thorough business reporting requirements to produce useful BI solutions. Responsible for data architecture design specification and documentation. Responsible for the design, development, modification, maintenance, testing and deployment of all GNS data platforms. Provide technical analysis and design requirements and documentation. Develop and maintain data analytics requirements for product solutions and business reporting. Maintain and develop a thorough and up-to-date working technical knowledge of digital solutions and the Voyager product suite. Maintain a detailed technical understanding of our products, systems, technologies, architecture and data sets. Key relationships (Internal / External) Head of IT Development Head of IT Infrastructure Development Team Knowledge & Experience Essential Experience in Big data analytics and reporting solutions Experience with writing SQL queries and Big data indexing Experience of BI type queries more than transaction processing and a demonstrable understanding of the difference in design and approach Experience with MS SQL Server database data querying Have knowledge of optimal methods and best practise to ensure good performance when working with large ‘big data’ sets Demonstrate forward thinking and innovative ideas. Excellent working knowledge and understanding of /data driven solutions. Desirable Sybase/SAP IQ or SAP SQL Anywhere Experience with Business Intelligence reporting and presentation tools Working within an Agile framework Skills Essential Good understanding of SELECT, CREATE (and indexes), INSERT and UPDATE Ability to provide a flexible, logical and analytical approach to data driven solutions. Ability to work as part of a team working on multiple projects or autonomously as required. Flexible approach to dealing with ever changing priorities and deadlines Ability to deliver every time to high quality coding standards – time, cost, quality, efficiency and value. Clear, concise and confident communicator with both internal and external stakeholders Ability to provide estimated timescales on various project related tasks ensuring the development team is adequately resourced. Qualifications Essential A-Level Maths & English or GCSE equivalents Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of experience.
