Lead Energy Engineer
Overview
We are looking for a Lead Energy Engineer to join a small team of experienced professional engineers within our Standards Directorate to support our members and stakeholders. Working alongside RSSB experts and other rail industry professionals, you will provide engineering input, technical expertise and leadership in the development of standards for the technical systems necessary for AC and DC electrification and its interfaces with other systems, particularly rolling stock. In addition, there are also emerging opportunities for a whole system approach to battery, hydrogen and alternative forms of traction. Standards development involves not only the output published by RSSB for the Energy domain, but also output from international standards bodies such as CENELEC. There are exciting challenges ahead as standards in the Energy domain will need to adapt to a post Brexit world, support innovative approaches to cost effective electrification, maintain and where appropriate improve safety, and support decarbonisation and sustainability. In addition, the role also involves providing technical support to other RSSB Directorates. This can involve activities such as supporting research and innovation projects where Energy domain knowledge and input is required. To succeed, you will be an experinced engineer (Chartered or working towards Chartership) in electrification and energy-systems engineering in the railway industry or in the electrical power distribution sector. You will be a member of a relevant professional body such as IET and will have an appreciation of the legal and regulatory framework in which RSSB operates. You will also be an effective leader with the ability to influence and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong analytical ability, strong communications skills and a flexible approach are also essential as well as a commitment to customer service and RSSB values.
