Overview

I am working with a Ministerial Department based in Swansea who are looking for a Tax Specialist for 6 months based in Swansea. The role is full time, to start ASAP and paying £200 - £225 Umbrella per day. The role is in scope of IR35 Role purpose: To provide support to the Senior Financial Control Manager on all aspects of tax compliance to ensure the Agency is in compliance with HMRC/HM Treasury Indirect Tax/VAT legislation, rules and requirements and maximises its VAT recovery position. To provide specialist advice, guidance and support to the agency in relation to VAT matters and also support the delivery of VAT training to internal audiences. Maintain and develop excellent external working relationships with DfT, HMRC and External Auditors. Main Duties: Provide support to the Senior Financial Control Manager responsible for VAT, Tax and payroll compliance. Ensure that the Agency is in compliance with HMRC/HM Treasury Indirect Tax/VAT legislation, rules and requirements. Ensure that the Agency maximises its recovery of VAT, in line with HM Treasury's Contracted out Services Direction and the Value Added Tax Act 1994. Authorise the correct VAT recovery position proposed by procurement specialists on non-contracted expenditure via SAP ERP, (Enterprise Resource Planning), system. Review the Agency's proposed procurement contracts and tenders. Give advice on correct VAT treatment and opportunities to maximise VAT recovery. Undertake reconciliations of VAT related GL accounts. Provide VAT related advice, guidance and support to both procurement specialists and the wider Agency. Liaise with our Shared services provider, investigate and rectify issues caused by SAP VAT defects. Support the delivery of training within the Agency, in relation to VAT, for various audiences including Procurement and Estates. To provide accountancy support and advice to the Payroll Team, including the checking of general ledger reconciliations. To work with other finance staff on ad hoc issues as required. Skills & Experience: Essential A detailed working knowledge of VAT principles, legislation and HMRC requirements. Significant experience of dealing with complex VAT liability / recovery issues. Excellent competency in the use of Microsoft Excel. Good oral and written communication skills. Desirable A detailed working knowledge of the Government Departmental VAT principles, specifically HM Treasury's Contracted out Services Direction, or Local Authority or NHS VAT recovery principles. Accountancy qualification. Experience of SAP ERP. Working knowledge of payroll taxes. Experience in the use of MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.
