Role: Analytical Chemist Location: Kent, UK Duration : Initial 6 months R ate: TBC Role Purpose: Ensure that customers' requirements and tasks are fully understood and that the problems and issues are reliably identified at the outset. Ensure that the resources required to deliver the requirements to Project Managers are in place, competent and adequate for the demand. Performs a wide variety of technical tasks in the energetics analysis area, recognising and resolving non-standard occurrences and problems on a regular basis whilst exercising discretion on moderately complex assignments; however, seeks advice from more senior members where deviations from the norm occur and where more creativity may be required. Encourage an open and honest business assurance culture, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Demonstrate a good understanding of the HSE requirements applicable to analysis techniques as well as explosives, take responsibility for ensuring other Team members complete their work in a safe and timely manner. Key Capabilities: Broad knowledge and experience of engineering and scientific principles, particularly chemical analysis techniques including chromatography, spectroscopy, titration and calorimetry. (An awareness of all techniques, and a capability to undertake a selection is required.) An appreciation of explosive materials would be advantageous but not essential as training will be provided. Job requires a good knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the range of processes, procedures and systems to be used in carrying out assigned tasks and a basic understanding of the underlying concepts & principles of analytical science. Apply specialist skills and knowledge to undertake analytical techniques and interpret the results as well as being able to develop new techniques for identifying explosive and inert components. Demonstrate good interpersonal, influencing and team working skills. Must be able to exchange ideas and information effectively in a concise and logical way. A strong ethos on the importance of safety, operational efficiency and project delivery. Understand the necessity to deliver high levels of quality on tasks performed and services provided and how this and the timely delivery of work impacts the effectiveness of the local team and Energetics Performance as a whole. Experience Required: A first degree in Science or Engineering, or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification. (Over six years of relevant technical support experience would be considered in lieu of the educational qualifier.) Would be working towards achieving membership of a relevant professional body. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of concepts and principles in own discipline and a basic knowledge of these elements in other disciplines.
