Our Client is a fast-moving entrepreneurial business without the bureaucracy and formalities of the bigger corporate. They are customer focused, with a strong reputation for innovation. The business has seen exponential growth, particularly over the past 3 years, having infiltrated the US markets and expanded the UK customer base. Following recent investment, they now have an impressive business plan for further growth, via new products and markets. As such they are now recruiting several key positions to facilitate that growth. One of those positions is for a “hands-on” Senior Buyer or Procurement Manager. The purpose of the role is to develop and execute new improved procurement strategies across all channels of purchasing, particularly sourcing of product, freight and warehousing. And to manage product costs across the life cycle of each product. This includes negotiating initial costs, maximising logistics utilisation and monitoring / re-negotiating costs to reflect changes in input costs. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate, monitor and actively engage in price negotiation, ensuring purchasing activity protects company margin and is controlled through applying cost analysis techniques. Actively track commodity prices, identifying opportunities to challenge suppliers for price reductions. Defend requests for price increases from suppliers Assist with provision of forecasts to key suppliers Assist with data gathering and implementation of supplier scorecards Hold regular meetings with key suppliers to review forecasts and performance Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers The successful candidate will be an experienced procurement professional – ideally having worked in the food or similar industries. You will be able to build mutually beneficial relationships with both suppliers and internal colleagues, have excellent negotiation skills and be highly organised. Candidates with a proven track record of setting up a procurement function will be of particular interest. Additional European languages would be beneficial but not a pre-requisite.
