Job Title : Assistant Cargo Inspector Job Type: Permanent Job Location : West Thurrock Salary: £21,000 - £23,000 YOUR ROLE We have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Cargo Inspector to join our West Thurrock team. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing support to the Inspection department by assisting with sampling duties on request. Basic responsibilities will be (but not limited to) ship/shore tank sampling, retail petrol forecourt sampling, collection of samples from various locations, sample delivery, collection/delivery of documentation to/from vessels and stock control for the inspection department . You will also ensure that tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner minimising any potential hazards. As an Assistant Cargo Inspector, you’ll receive a salary of £21,000 - £23,000 per annum depending on experience, a company van, plus you’ll benefit from a 10% performance bonus, retail discount scheme, private health cover after 1 years’ service, contributory pension scheme and life cover. Key Accountabilities To obtain representative samples from vessels/shore tanks/retail petrol forecourt as per instructions. Ensure samples are collected from various locations as directed within the required deadlines. Collection and delivery of samples / equipment etc from client sites. Help in the storage and disposal of samples in a proper, traceable and safe manner to ensure compliance is maintained. Maintain and monitor inspection department stock of sampling equipment to ensure that the Inspection team has an appropriate supply and customer service is not affected. To carry out all operations in strict accordance with applicable procedures for operations and safety. To work in a flexible manner / call out pattern so that resources are aligned to workload, thus meeting customers’ needs for 24hr 365-day service whilst still maintaining a long term viable and competitive business for SGS. YOUR PROFILE Essential Experience of working in an industrial environment. Experience of dealing directly with clients and answering queries. Ability to carry out physically demanding work, the majority of which is outdoors on a 24/7 rota. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision whilst still delivering services to the timescales and standards expected. Ability to work to tight and often conflicting deadlines to meet client requirements. Competent in using the Word and Excel software. A good level of numeracy and literacy. Good communication skills - both verbal and written. GCSE: Maths & English (grades A to C) or equivalent. Full UK driving licence.
