Overview

Scouts Director of Finance and Resources Attractive Salary London Scouts is a global force for good and the largest mixed movement in the UK, inspiring over 460,000 young people to gain skills for life. It helps girls and boys from all walks of life play their part, speak up and stand out. Society is changing. In often fragmented communities, the pressures and expectations on young people are increasing. The future is uncertain. Scouts has never been so important in helping young people prepare for the future, developing the skills they need to succeed in and in due course to shape a changing world. Our movement achieves extraordinary things. Now we want to go further. Skills for Life is a strategy that supports and empowers our 160,000 adult volunteers: the people that make Scouts happen across our 7,000 groups. It’s a strategy to bring communities together and contribute towards a better society. But most of all, it’s a strategy for young people. They deserve the best skills, the best support, and the best possible futures. To deliver this, Scouts needs a team of leaders who are passionate about the vision, and highly skilled in their areas of expertise. The federated structure of Scouts adds layers of complexity, and the Director of Finance and Resources needs to be able to navigate this, work with both staff and volunteer colleagues, and operate through influence. They must be resilient, flexible, ambitious for the organisation, while being a generous team player. The Director of Finance and Resources has responsibility for a high number of key operations across a large, complex asset base, from finance and governance, through HR and legal. Your role will be to help ask fundamental, strategic questions while developing greater organisational resilience and a more robust, organisational design. You will have the opportunity to review the broader structures and systems in order to create new business models that future-proof the movement. You’ll need to be a big strategic thinker, able to balance the views of myriad stakeholders from young people to the Treasurer, managing risk making and limiting Scouts’ exposure. The Director of Finance and Resources will have a keen sense of how to harness risk and exploit opportunity, underpinning all decisions so that the organisation is kept safe, well-governed, able to make sound financial decisions and provide front-line services with lasting impact. Without a doubt, this is an exciting time to join Scouts.
