The Role We are Primetals Technology, a world leader in metallurgical plant solutions, and we are looking for a Technical Proposals Engineer based in Sheffield to join one of our most successful business segments. With a good engineering background, our Technical Proposals Engineers work to manage and develop incoming customer enquiries and formulate selling pricing and strategy. You will be preparing professional quotations that meet client requirements, demands and schedules. Our activities are based on a supply chain & logistics management for material, spare parts and repair processes for which this role plays an integral part. Main Tasks and Responsibilities Maintain a close working relationship with the Supply Chain and Engineering departments and promote the timely flow of technical and pricing information to facilitate preparation of the proposal documents and cost estimates. Ensure enquiries are prepared on time and in line with the internal process and that they meet financial requirements for contribution margin, EBIT and the relevant commercial terms and conditions. Liaise with suppliers to ensure manufacturing, quality, delivery & prices meet deadlines. Control and co-ordinate the preparation of the Technical Proposal Documents in accordance with the department strategy and Company standard tools for presentation. Participate in the sales and technical review meetings to develop best practice. Working closely with the department manager to co-ordinate the inputs from engineering disciplines to prepare a competitive pricing concept for new and existing business. Calculation of man-hours and supply costs in accordance with the Limits of Authority Procedures. Reporting progress, problems and proposed resolutions with a view to facilitating a successful proposal. Required Skills and Experience Good engineering background with ability to read complex engineering drawings, preferably with a time served apprenticeship. Engineering Qualification (Degree preferable but HNC/HND equivalent may also be considered depending on experience). Technical knowledge of Rolling Mill and / or Process Line Equipment and terminology. Good knowledge of manufacturing processes. Ability to build cost estimates. Good knowledge of supplier relationships with a commercial awareness. Good communication skills both written and spoken. High levels of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience of working with SAP & MS Office. Knowledge of LEAN practices beneficial.
