Overview

IP Network Engineer Reporting to the Head of Network Implementation, this role is a member of the Network Implementation team in the Cambridge office. Within the Operations Department, the Implementation Team is responsible for the physical network architecture, Point of Presence sites and implementing changes across the network to delivers services to our users, and constantly evolve and improve the network to drive continuous improvement across our infrastructure. Alongside its business as usual activities within the (GN4.3) project the team will over the next 3 years be a key part of a major network equipment refresh and expansion project. This role is technically and personally challenging and requires you to use planning and co-ordination skills as well as personal skills when dealing with other teams, departments or customers and the wide array of equipment and SW tools in use to deliver network add, moves and changes as required working within defined timescales and against set delivery SLA’s and work deadlines. You must be prepared to travel extensively to sites across mainland Europe or the UK. Role Accountabilities · Contribute to the planning, coordinating and delivering of user services and network infrastructure changes across a range of platforms · Complete physical work and configuration steps to provision IP and Optical services on current and future optical and routing platforms. · Installations of new node elements / servers as required to implement moves and changes to services and network infrastructure · Deal directly with 3rd party suppliers, site contacts and end users · Maintaining quality standards and assess build and service quality provided by 3rd party vendors and suppliers · Work closely with the GN4.3N Project management team during the duration of the GN4.3N project providing support and site expertise as required including pre and post deployment audits and site survey as well as providing on-site support during network traffic migrations from legacy to replacement hardware · In addition to the above you will carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required. Business Travel · Regular business travel will be required in this role. Travel will mainly be within Europe, but some worldwide travel may be required. Experience, Knowledge and Skills - Essential · Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the environment · Proven experience in installation, commissioning/configuration of Optical Transmission, IP routing equipment or associated technologies · Use of field test equipment · Experience of working in Data Centre/Technical environments. Desirable · Experience of working and large-scale deployment projects · Experience in working with Infinera or Juniper technologies · Industry or vendor Certification in networking or IP/Optical technologies · CCIE, CONA or JNCIA qualified This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89954400
