Overview

Summary of role: Responsibility for providing a pivotal role in development of novel ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes, resin formulations, nanomaterial system innovation, communication and reporting. Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum Reporting to : Head of R&D Key responsibilities: · Provide technical expertise on resin formulations, nanocomposites and manufacturing of polymeric membranes · Designing advanced nanomaterial and nanocomposite systems for polymeric membranes - Formulation development including polymer blend and nanomaterial in host polymers - Surface modification of nanomaterial and polymeric membranes - Synthesis and modification of polymers and resins - Manufacturing and testing ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis polymer membranes · Characterisation of advanced nanomaterial and nanocomposite systems - Characterisation of nanomaterials - Polymer characterisation - Membrane characterisation - Testing membrane performance (flux, rejection, anti-fouling, mechanical and chemical stability) Requirements: · PhD in chemical engineering, polymer science or a related field · At least 10 years experience with a proven track record in polymeric membrane research · Preferred experience in ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane research and development · Experience in resin formulations, polymeric nanocomposite materials · Experience in polymerization reactions, polymer grafting, modification and characterization · Experience in surface modification and functionalisation of nanoparticles including crosslinking chemistry and coating methodologies · Proven track record in grant writing, providing technical assistance to junior members and projects management · Excellent communication skills including IT literacy · Good interpersonal skills · Ability to plan ahead, prioritise and address forthcoming issues · Enhance work morale · Multitasking capabilities KPI’s: · Achieving project milestones · Reporting results to Head of R&D in a timely manner · All invention disclosures/ patents filed in a timely manner · All resin/film samples are sent to other teams and customers in a timely manner · Perform proper characterisation on resin samples and nanocomposites · Identify needed equipment and carry out procurement if necessary Qualified candidates should send the CV to HR before the 29 April 2020.
