Job Title: Female Support Workers/Personal Care Assistants Location: Near Southlands hospital, Shoreham, West Sussex Hourly rate: £9.00 Reference: BRR6886 Hours/shifts : Sunday-Saturday (7 days), 2.30pm-5.00pm approx. At least two PAs required, job share would be ideal, please apply for the days you are available. Summary • My mum is a happy, 71 year old woman with dementia and limited mobility. • She enjoys company, watching tv, looking at old photos and talking about family memories. • She enjoys short walks in the nearby park and car rides out to Shoreham airport. • She loves music and could be encouraged to do a crossword. • She requires support to live independently. The work will involve occasional help with personal care, domestic assistance, preparing a hot meal and assistance with going out. • You must be female, have your own car and be patient and understanding. • Previous experience of dementia would be preferable but not essential. • You would report directly to me (client’s daughter) as the employer. Other Requirements • "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9." • Must have a UK driving licence • Must have access to own vehicle • Other : All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away Changing bed linen Meals - preparing, cooking and washing up. Preparing drinks Light housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. Minor household maintenance e.g. changing lightbulbs Personal Care : Support with getting up from sofa and mobilising if needed Occasional support with personal care tasks Social: • Accompanying and assisting on trips out e.g. local park, airport, food shopping, meeting friends/family, attending therapies and disability group. • Accompanying to appointments e.g. dentist, opticians, hairdressers and chiropodist. • Assisting to safely cross roads, keeping safe and supervised at all times. • Motivating to take an interest in things e.g. talking about memories. • Help to keep a diary. • The above duties will involve you using your own car to take the client out. • Lending an arm so that the client can walk with your assistance. Person specification The successful applicant will be: • Female due to personal care needs • Have a full driving licence and own car • Patient and understanding • Previous experience with dementia would be preferable but not essential • Able to learn the needs of a person with dementia • Have reasonable English so that you can communicate fully • Not smoke at work • Able to undertake housework and domestic tasks to a reasonable standard • Able to respect privacy and confidentiality • Honest and trustworthy • Cheerful and positive • Reliable with good time-keeping • Self-motivated • Hygienic • Fit and healthy enough to undertake the full range of tasks • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Please note, if you are successful in your application for this role you will be employed through the individual employer and not Independent Lives.
