About the UKHO UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence. The role Defence Geospatial Services enables the MOD to respond to crises worldwide by providing more effective situational awareness capabilities. It enables military personnel and civil servants to search, discover, visualise, annotate, analyse, download and exploit authoritative Foundation Geospatial Information provided by Specialised Geospatial Centres. The Defence Test, Reference and Innovation Facility is the Joint Geospatial Intelligence endorsed capability for the development and evaluation of geospatial web services, particularly those associated with the Defence Geospatial Services and the wider MOD Spatial Data Infrastructure Sandbox. This role’s key focus is supporting development activities in the MOD Spatial Data Infrastructure Sandbox and the UKHO contribution to the Defence Test, Reference and Innovation Facility as part of the MOD wide Defence Geospatial Services capability. This post will closely support the DGS Capability Manager and the DTRIF Manager as part of the Defence Development and Capability Team, including managing the UKHO Sandbox Node and participate in/support Sandbox Sprints, longer term development activity and other collaborative national and international events. What we are looking for The successful candidate will have practical experience of using GIS software, with the confidence and ability to tackle novel problems with geospatial data formats, attribution and visualisation. You will be comfortable communicating with staff and customers internal and external to the UKHO, and able to clarify, interpret and manage customer requirements effectively.
