Job Description

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory are seeking a Geospatial Analyst to join them at Dstl Porton Down, Salisbury. Team: Ministry of Defence|Defence Science and Technology Laboratory|Cyber and Information Systems Initial contracts will run for 24 months (480 working days) and offer a rate up to 376/day. IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement. Please note, the rates quoted represent the value payable to the umbrella company. To confirm PAYE rate (i.e. after employer deductions such as Employers NI) or the after-tax payment, please contact an umbrella company for an illustration. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS : 09/04/2020 at 09:00 This role requires Active DV (Developed Vetting) clearance. Applicants require active DV clearance or the willingness to go through clearance before starting on site. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred. Main Responsibilities * To act as a Dstl Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical lead on all geospatial analysis matters including providing advice on data, tools and techniques. * Identification of requirements for improvements using technology to improve geospatial data capture, management and exploitation. * Building of technology demonstrators using commercial and open source software. * To support the set up and running of experimentation and demonstration environments * Work with partners and stakeholders across MoD * Engage with customers to gather feedback. * Collaboration with other team members to identify potential solutions * Support and assurance of industry supplied research * Provide advice on Geospatial interoperability and future trends. * Provide wider support to projects in terms of scoping, delivery and coherence of current and future requirements relating to Geospatial information. * Provide advice to the experimentation lead on the design, layout and use cases for geospatial intelligence applications and services. Essential Skills and Experience * Experience of working with and effectively communicating with Customers. * Proven record of using commercial and/or open source geospatial tools (such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, PostGIS etc) to collect, manage and exploit geospatial data. * An understanding of remote sensing data sources and associated processing methodologies. * Programming and scripting skills using python, java, javascript, R or similar Desirable Skills and Experience * Experience of Trial/Experimental design and conduct Candidate Eligibility Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship.
