Overview

A large energy trading business in London is seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join a quantitative development team responsible for providing front office analytical tools for the traders and structurers. The ideal candidate will have good understanding and experience in relational databases (SQL), ETL processes, data modelling, APIs and has the ability to translate analytical requirements into detailed technical specifications and documentation as well as optimising the storing and access of the data. Key responsibilities will include: Working with Front Office Analysts, gathering requirements and transforming analytical problems into detailed technical specs and documentation. Analyse and convert the analytical requirements into an optimised database model for data retrieval and storage. Build a close relationship with the development team ensuring that technical specs are properly understood, implemented correctly, properly documented and easily supported by the team. Perform data checks and oversee the developers work to make sure new data feeds are onboarded. Establish and implement procedures and controls to minimise the incidence of system/human error in relation to the database and any tools developed and supported by the team. Provide support to customers, debug and carry out investigations on the company’s main data platforms. Experience and Skills required: Strong academic background with a degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle) is essential, being able to create SQL queries to interrogate the database. Experience in ETL processes and reporting analytics, such Alteryx and Tableau. Experience in scripting programming languages, such as Python, is desirable. Good knowledge of data structure and architecture and their design and use, as well as tools used to support these processes. Experience of Microsoft Excel (including VBA) and Power Query is also desirable. An in depth understanding of current technology practices, systems development techniques, including requirements specification and testing methodologies, real time analytical and formal modelling tools. Previous experience working within a trading operation, preferably energy or other commodity trading with a full understanding of data requirements of the business. Prior background in power market fundamentals i.e. micro economics of power markets is desirable.
