MCL Medics is currently recruiting for a full-time Occupational Health and Well-being Nurse to join our team in Aberdeen. This role is responsible for supporting the service delivery of the full remit of occupational health services; including case management, health surveillance and medical assessments. The post holder will participate in health surveillance and health promotion activities whilst acquiring the necessary skills to develop practice in line with current guidance. Confidentiality is a key aspect of this role and is an essential requirement. The work is delivered at client sites and MCL Medics’ Clinic in Aberdeen. You will be the face of 'quality service' for MCL Medics and be responsible for the advice given and the service perception of the employee and client organisation. Key Responsibilities To be responsible for running routine clinics as directed by the Specialist Nurse Team Leader to cover the needs of the service. To undertake routine work which is handled by the department daily e.g. the processing of New Starter health screening forms, giving telephone advice, accident follow ups, health surveillance screening. To advise clients on current recommendations in relation to work environments, in line with occupational health regulations. To provide a service which is client focused, referring to senior colleagues as appropriate. To adhere to evidence-based practice when providing clinical advice in accordance with current occupational health practice. This may include routine health checks, infection prevention or health and safety guidance. To ensure clients receive continuity of care, referring to senior colleagues required. To undertake basic health screening procedures and assist in weekly health surveillance activities, e.g. lung function testing for workers exposed to respiratory sensitisers. To understand and provide vaccination programmes for various employee groups and promote awareness of the need to be protected against various infection hazards in the context of specific occupations. To undertake short term sickness absence reviews following management referral. To provide support to clients who are emotionally and psychologically distressed, referring on to a senior colleague or counselor as appropriate. To undertake health screening risk assessments in accordance with the department protocols, obtaining advice from senior colleagues where there is uncertainty about fitness to work or take up a new post. To follow up occupational accident incidents e.g. manual handling and infectious disease contacts to ensure records are completed as required. To address requests from employees/manager to provide workplace assessment, giving support and information in line with HSE guidance and department protocols. To be available for and participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination programme for staff and external client groups both during normal office hours and also out of hours for shift workers. To participate in the collection and evaluation of clinical data for the purpose of clinical audit within the specialty of occupational health. To maintain knowledge of legislation affecting occupational health practice and be working towards a recognized qualification in the specialty. To ensure equality, diversity and clients rights are adhered to at all times and maintain good working relationships with relevant staff within the hospital and private contract groups. To maintain confidential records of OH activities both in manual records and computer records using Excel spreadsheets and our dedicated OH management database. To ensure that all staff at all times maintain confidentiality including files, fax, email, telephone, etc. Essential Qualifications Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered General Nurse, RN1, RNA Occupational health qualification at Degree level desired but not essential Experience Previous experience in Occupational Health with a background covering various occupational health settings and environments.
