Overview

Engineering Manager (official title is Asset Care Manager) Industry - FMCG Manufacturing Location - Flint To be successful in this role, you will need to tick most of the following requirements: Degree level qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering Other technical qualifications may be suitable when accompanied with suitable engineering managerial experience within a FMCG Manufacturing / Packaging environment Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous NEBOSH Certificate qualified Proven technical ability to manage in a highly complex packaging environment, delivering practical solutions Delivery of maintenance best practice, manufacturing improvement and engineering project management Ability to manage people performance, coaching and development of a multi-disciplined team of up to 25 people Sound and proven financial acumen Proactive structured problem evaluation & solving skills learnt through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or Manufacturing excellence The puropse of this role is to lead a team of 20 shift technicians and 3 days-based Development Engineers. Through your teams, drive significant improvement in overall engineering performance across the Flint manufacturing site (15 manufacturing lines, with varied levels of automation). Develop and implement the site asset care strategy that enables this to be achieved Your day to day job details will include: Deliver world class performance in all aspects of the balanced scorecard (Safety, Quality, Performance, Service, Cost) Manage a support service for the operation that achieves optimum performance and reliability of equipment, improves site resilience and delivers within agreed budgets Influence the Flint Capex Plan and work with the Group Projects Manager and Operations Director to aide implementation Development of technical competence, specifically the up-skilling of engineering team to accommodate the changes in role brought about by Asset Care and Autonomous Maintenance programmes Custodian and advocate of safety of engineering work on site and leader of good governance around internal and external compliance (health & safety, quality and environment) Ensure day to day priorities do not stifle the longer term site strategy Optimise efficiency on site through ensuring effective asset care Work with projects team to ensure that engineering standards for new equipment and installations are defined and of the highest standards Create and adhere to the asset care budget, and provide input into the capital budget Responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and reliability of all assets on site Develop measures and KPIs to ensure improvement plans are delivered Develop improvement plans for utility usage through clear measure of energy performance Ensure that all health, safety and environment, quality, cost and reliability standards are met and drive conformance to regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g. ISO/HACCP etc.) on site As part of the site senior leadership team, set objectives and priorities and lead the change management processes for the department Coach direct reports to identify areas of underperformance and produce accident/incident reporting to a level that enables learning and root cause to be established Role model the use of problem solving tools within the department Use leader standard work to ensure adherence to process and system improvements . Provide effective coaching to direct reports that support this Achieve annual safety observation targets - both numbers raised and completion rates Act immediately on issues as they are exposed. Demonstrate strength of character to challenge under performance/poor behaviours in the moment by not walking by Participate in the Daily Operational Review Provide technical expertise, experience and guidance to support problem solving activities Ensure development of maintenance competence in site engineering teams Deliver 1:1s, performance reviews and personal development plans for all team members covering both technical and behavioural competencies to agreed frequency Execute & maintain team data in Kronos / Personnel systems Carry out absence reviews and disciplinary investigations/hearings when required Undertake skills review according to the business’s longer term requirements and identify training matrix covering each team member Through effective team meetings, 1on1's, formal/informal communication methods, establish and improve departmental communication methods leading to higher levels of engagement measured by such methods as the employee Survey Ensure all members of the engineering team are aligned to the site/line/team direction through effective cascade of departmental / site objectives This would fit a natural leader, who is innovative, strategy lead and will challenge the norm.
