Job description: Permanent role - centralised around IT and Health & Safety Profile description: Senior Technician - (Health and Safety focussed) Salary: £29,677 to £34,032 per annum Holiday allowance – 30 (plus) days as standard – (plus) extra-long service days added – (plus) 8 bank holidays days on top We wish to appoint a Senior Technician to join a creative, innovative and hardworking team within the College. You will provide technical and operational services, support, advice, instruction and demonstration to the College. Working across IT, operational and technical areas to meet the needs of the College. Working closely with senior management, you will be expected to deliver specialist legislative and/or compliance support, advice and co-ordination to the College, Health and Safety and Risk Assessment / Management. This will include providing recommendations for best practice, process and policy to ensure that the College is compliant with both legislative requirements and the policies of the University. Providing front line technical support and training to staff, students and visitors in the use of specialist lab equipment, computers, software, and AV equipment. Manage & implement projects under the direction of and supported by senior management producing reports, proposals and business cases as required. Other duties associated with the role include office relocations, space management, asset disposal, and event support such as open days, inductions and graduations. The post holder with have experience working in a customer facing technical support environment, in a team leading role. Experience with Windows-based PC operating platforms and software is essential as well as experience of managing and delivering technical projects. Educated to GCSE Level with particular emphasis on Maths and English or equivalent. In addition, Technical qualification/HNC/NVQ 4 or degree level and a relevant qualification managing Health and Safety such as IOSH. You would be expected to be customer facing and work directly with both staff and students so would therefore require excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This role will be Health and safety management focused with added compliance experience in cyber security ( a bonus). The role is fairly generic but to expand on the generic tasks listed, we will be looking for someone to conduct the following tasks: Health & safety systems, records and auditing are up to date and to reviewing systems where necessary to improve process and delivery: Co-ordination and delivery of all DSE self-assessments. Assigning assessors, arranging contractor visit to implement equipment installs, closing down DSE cases with reasonable adjustments completed and signed off by user PAT testing: Arranging college wide PAT testing through contractor and ensuring relevant communications in place with affected stakeholders Risk assessments: Ensure all CBASS services risks assessments are reviewed and up to date for any task requiring an assessment. Providing advice to staff about risk assessments and ensuring that understanding is embedded in producing such documents CoSHH: Ensuring existing management of chemicals are maintained in areas of need within the college and records kept up to date (covering chemical disposal and risk assessment management for chemicals, activities and experiments in the college) Management of college building inspections ensuring any issues are reported/ remedied by central services (maintenance and fire officer) in a timely manner. PPE: Ensuring all college PPE is appropriate and records, risk assessments are place Manual Handling: Ensuring appropriate systems/risk assessments in place for managing all manual handling equipment and tasks in the college Delivering specialist legislative and/or compliance support, advice and co-ordination in cyber security. Recommending best practice, process and policy, ensuring college compliance in line with legislative requirements/policy Ensuring sufficient fire marshals and first aiders in college building.
