The hospital also has a several specialised centres, including; The London Breast Institute, recognised as one of the best private breast screening and diagnostic treatment centres in the UK; the London Digestive Centre, a highly specialised outpatient facility offering diagnoses and treatments for all conditions of the stomach, small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, and bile ducts; and The Institute of Sport Exercise and Health, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to sport and exercise medicine. A 27 bedded inpatient oncology unit, with patients at all stages of their cancer journey, providing acute and complex care. We work as part of a wide MDT and alongside consultants providing treatment for all types of solid tumours. We are a varied ward that includes caring for emergency oncology admissions, acutely unwell patients, those currently undergoing treatments or suffering from the side effects of treatments, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiotherapy, and those requiring palliative and end of life care. Job Description As an Oncology Sister, you will be providing care for Oncology patients from diagnosis, collaborative treatment planning, chronic pain control, to integration into the community and end of life care. This rewarding and yet challenging role allows empathic and caring nursing to utilise the full range of nursing skills from diagnosis support, patient and relative education, administering chemotherapy and treating all illness related symptoms, medically, physically, emotionally and mentally. This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week on rotation to include long days, nights and weekends. The attractive and competitive salary for this role is between £45,754- £50,330 (include Shift enhancement) and will be dependent upon skills and experience. Duties & Responsibilities Effectively manage and develop a nursing team and provide professional and clinical leadership in the delivery of high quality, safe, cost effective care of patients, families and staff Work across the clinical area with nurses on a one to one/group basis to develop and enhance clinical skills and practice Deputise for the ward sister to ensure appropriate senior cover at all times Assume responsibility, as delegated by the Matron for the management of both human and financial resources within the ward in an effective and efficient manner Use clinical expertise and works in a collaborative way to extend the role of nursing to meet the needs of the patient, carer and family Acts as a role model to develop and encourage harmonious working relationships and professional rapport within the department and with other disciplines, departments and external agencies Adopt a team leadership style that motivates and empowers ward staff in attaining and developing high standards of patient care and professional development Manage clinical risk by ensuring all nurses take individual responsibility for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the ward Skills & Experience Registered General Nurse with full NMC registration Experience in the field of Oncology Chemotherapy trained Experience of mentoring and managing change About The Individual At HCA UK we recognise and value everyone as unique and individual; treat people with kindness and compassion; act with absolute honesty, integrity, and fairness and trust and treat one another as valued members of the HCA UK family.
