Job Title: Software Engineer LR: LR6/7 Site Location: Reading Job Family & Code: 06-06 (Software Component Engineer) Sub Job Family: Travel Percentage: 0% Role Reports To: Head of Software – SIX ICE No. Direct Reports: None Role Defaults To: Security Critical: SC Clearance Required Additional Information: Primary Purpose of the Role: To undertake software development tasks associated with the SIX UK security, communications and ECM products and systems. The Software Engineer is expected to support the business Portfolio Lead, Portfolio Engineering Manager and Product Design Authority in the proposal and development of software applications in line with the Product Development policy and agreed customer requirements. Principal Relationships: § Business Portfolio Lead § Business Portfolio Engineering Manager § Product Design Authority § Software Team Lead § Head of Software – SIX UK Key Responsibilities and Tasks: § Responsible for delivery of agreed tasks to executable software components § Produce high quality design specifications for the software under change § Adherence to the Thales development governance to ensure application of best practice § Reporting of Engineering progress to the Engineering Manager Skills & Experience: Essential Software development using the C++ language gained in the Visual Studio environment Knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP, COM Microsoft Office Tools Desirable Embedded Linux Experience of developing drivers for interfacing to equipment Experience of the GIT configuration management tool Software Development using GO, JAVA, HTML5, Angular JS Experienced in working within an Agile team using the Scrum methodology and JIRA Crypto Expertise Values & Behaviours: Focus on Customers Perform through teaming Develop our people In addition the key Thales behaviours: The ability to analyse complex technical problems and offer innovative, reasoned and practical solutions Self-motivated, innovative & willing to exercise initiative Customer focused acting professionally on behalf of Thales at all times Good interpersonal skills, being part of a multi-disciplinary team environment and support team members, including off site Ability to set clear team objectives and goals The ability to prioritise, manage own workload, be flexible, work under pressure and to demanding deadlines. Qualifications: Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant Engineering / Computer Science Field Other: The work will be carried out at Thales premises in Reading. In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
