Overview
Nurse/Ward Manager - may also have some Theatre Recovery duties but training will be given Clinic Function: Cosmetic procedures mainly Breast Augmentation Reports to: Hospital Manager Level: Ward Manager Role Purpose: 24-hour operational responsibility for the ward in-patient and day case patient care. Responsibility for all patients being seen and cared for post operatively (average op list size 5 patients) The provision of high standards of clinical care within the ward areas. To liaise with Heads of Department. To maintain efficient communication on the ward at all levels. To perform any reasonable duties as requested by the Hospital Manager. Core Responsibilities: Manage the inpatient/day case areas and coordinate all activities to provide a high standard of clinical care and comfort for patients. Compliance with established work standards, nursing policies and procedures, and CQC essential standards. Direct involvement in recruitment of ward staff. Plan staff appraisal programmes and ensure appraisals are carried out in line with hospital objectives. Act as a recognised resource for clinical issues to the nursing team. Encourage evidence led and research based practice through clinical supervision. Monitor all entries to nursing documents to ensure accurate completion. Undertakes certain ‘extended role’ duties according to hospital policy and scope of professional practice. Order, store, administer, and document all medications in accordance with hospital policy. Be accountable for your own practice and take every opportunity to sustain and improve your knowledge and skills. Through leadership and example promote team care pathway practice. Responsible for rotas, which incorporate skill mix and patient dependency. Develop the correct provision of ward equipment and supplies based on patient needs, developing technology, and business development. Act as part of the Hospital’s resuscitation team. Assures compliance with established work standards and nursing policies and procedures, for subordinate staff. Takes an active role in completing the Ward standards audit cycle. Audits to assess output, quality etc, in order to improve quality of total patient care. Through leadership; and example, promote team nursing. To assist in development and maintenance of ward standards. Act as a role model in delivering a high standard of nursing care. Promote individuals accountability/responsibility for patient care at ward level whilst avoiding de-skilling of staff. Audit infection control within the ward. Management reference point for the standards of hygiene within the ward areas. Advise the Hospital Manager of all accidents, incidents and complaints, completing records as per hospital policy. Co-ordinate yearly risk assessment review. Complies with obligations in respect of Health and Safety at Work Legislation, fire drills, etc. Update policies and procedures and ensure nursing staff are aware of policy changes. Approving leave and ensure adequate cover is maintained. To ensure dress code is adhered to. Specific Knowledge/Qualifications Educational Required: RGN (Level 1) Preferred: Teaching and assessment qualification (ENB 998/730) Preferred: A professional management qualification e.g. NVQ level 3 or 4 Preferred: Postgraduate training and a qualification in an area of specialist responsibility Previous knowledge, skills and/or experience Required: At least 5 years post qualification experience Required: At least 3 years management experience Preferred: Staff and budget management experience Desirable: Experience within the independent healthcare sector Please apply in the first instance by email.
