Brief We are looking to recruit a Risk Lawyer with 1-3 years' PQE to provide valuable and essential support to our risk team and the fee earning community. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with drafting and reviewing a wide variety of engagement terms and reviewing outside counsel guidelines and drafting appropriate engagement terms for our non-legal business entities – working with senior lawyer and reporting to the firm's International Conflicts Counsel. The role of the risk lawyer will be to work with the senior contracts lawyer, drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a wide range of engagement terms with clients, including JV arrangements and consortia arrangements with other service professionals. The senior contracts lawyer will provide appropriate support and guidance to the risk lawyer. As we are not just a law firm, there is a need for the Team to provide contract support to our other areas of business such as Brook Graham, our diversity and inclusion business and Vario, our lawyer on demand business. The risk lawyer will also assist in maintaining our suite of proforma engagement documentation and draft new precedents eg non-reliance letters and new engagement documentation for new offices. The risk lawyer will also work with the Head of Quality & Audit to assist with risk training to junior lawyers and trainees and take ownership of other risk streams such as insider lists. Team Background The Risk & Compliance Team ("The Team") is responsible for ensuring compliance with the firm's professional and regulatory obligations, managing the firm's risk, claims and complaints and ensuring appropriate levels of PI cover. It is led by our Director of Risk and our International Conflicts Counsel, supported by a Head of Regulatory, Head of Privacy and Head of Quality & Audit – all are highly experienced risk & compliance lawyers. Within the team there are also lawyers with specific areas of responsibility. The Team also includes risk advisors. In addition there is a team of compliance analysts responsible for on-boarding all new clients and matters. The Team is based in the UK (London, Birmingham and Glasgow), Dubai and Hong Kong - it provides support to all of the firm's offices. In total there are 25 in the team. The team operates a centre of excellence approach working with lawyers and representatives across the various business functions, such as Finance, HR and IT and is very much a respected and a highly valued team which contributes to the success of the firm and in supporting its purpose and values. Candidate Summary The successful candidate will: have gained experience in a general commercial or corporate environment, either in-house or private practice technical excellence in contract drafting and amending and ability to apply skills to a wide range of commercial contracts for services and equipment, together with a strong appreciation of the key legal issues relevant to the firm's procurement activities be a team player, able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues in an agile environment; be technically strong and exercise good commercial judgment What will we offer you?
