Overview

Principle Mechanical Engineer Location: Surrey Salary : £65,000 (Pending on experience) Position : Permanent Reference number: This role is with a Mechanical services bias with key Areas of expertise to include Heating, Ventilation, AC, Controls/BEMS and Public Health services. The role also requires a multi-disciplinary approach leading and coordinating all aspects of building services engineering project with Electrical and other Building Services Engineers. The role also requires detailed knowledge and experience for the requirements of Energy Modelling, Fire and Life Safety Services, Energy/Low Zero Carbon/BREEAM and Sustainability. Client Facing - assist with business development, generating and developing business leads, producing fee proposals and appointment negotiation. Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients. Financial - commercial awareness with the ability to assist with financial reporting and forecasting of design projects. Lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams in the preparation of detailed designs and specifications for multiple building services engineering projects - identifying all required inputs, coordination and deliverables to achieve the time, cost, and quality objectives. Management of External Consultants including scope, fee/ payments, inputs and deliverables. Provide detailed co-ordination, builder’s work and working drawings for design and build projects. Carry out site surveys and prepare detailed and comprehensive reports to the highest standard. Work closely with the Group Operations teams and Group Estimating Department to provide design solutions and provide technical advice. Actively review and offer Value Engineering design opportunities with considerations to cost, effectiveness and safety of new designs. Evaluate tenders for building services engineering services and advise on their technical and financial viability. Liaise and correspond with Statutory Authorities and incoming services supply companies, in relation to the project design. Lead, attend, participate and present at multi-disciplinary project design team meetings. Liaise with site operatives, nominated services engineers, external consultants and architects etc. Take a Lead Role in CDM compliance. Read, understand and implement the Company H&S Policy and QA at all times. Carry out surveys, produce and present reports and specifications to a high quality. Utilise building services design software for detailed analysis and presentation of all energy calculations and thermal modelling associated with buildings such as heat loss, heat gain, energy consumption, Part L compliance, SBEM/SAP and plant modelling. Design plant, pipe and duct work services using advanced software (e.g. Cymap). Critically review, comment and check colleagues and less experienced engineers design drawings and calculations. Critically review, comment and status external/third party designs on behalf of the Group. Have a working understanding of specialist computer-aided design (CAD), building information modelling (BIM) and other software packages to design all the systems required for the project and work closely with CAD/BIM team to ensure completion of designs drawings are produced to the highest quality and according to company standards. Overseeing and supervising the installation of building systems and assisting in specifying maintenance and operating procedures. Research new developments and innovations and take an active approach to their own CPD. Supervise, mentor and train less experienced members of the team and take a lead role in MEP Design Projects. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION Minimum 2:1 or above degree accredited by CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent Minimum BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) or equivalent associated with building services engineering Preferably a Masters degree associated with building services engineering Member of CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent Chartered Engineer or Working Towards Suitable experience in a building services design role (Mechanical and Public Health) Site experience Excellent working knowledge of CIBSE guidance, British Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to building services engineering.
