Brief We are currently looking to recruit lawyers at the associate level specialising in TMT Disputes work, to join our London office. The ideal candidate will be at 3-5yrs PQE level. Background Pinsent Masons LLP has one of the leading and most established Technology, Media & Telecoms practices in the UK. With a team of over 30 partners and over 100 additional fee-earners, across a network of offices nationwide and international, our substantial practice provides commercial, advisory and contentious services. Pinsent Masons LLP provides a full range of advice and guidance, including in relation to: outsourcing, e-business, IT product and services contracts, commercial contracts, Freedom of Information, intellectual property, technology, telecoms, IT and communications disputes, data protection, cyber and privacy and media. Our dedicated TMT disputes team works with suppliers and customers in relation to the establishment, management and resolution of TMT projects in both the public and private sectors. Our team has specialised in this sector for over 20 years and is consistently praised by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners for its strengths in this area, with the team having been involved in some of the most significant cases to affect the industry in recent years. We support clients encountering difficulties in implementation, integration and large service contracts such as outsourcing and system integration contracts. We frequently assist clients in rectifying "run-away" projects and our project support services help clients identify and control risk during projects, thereby minimising the occurrence of project failure and costly disputes. The TMT disputes team works closely with our transactional TMT team, offering a co-ordinated approach which often results in the effective re-negotiation of problem contracts, after we have helped the client identify matters to improve its negotiating position. For irrecoverable projects we provide comprehensive dispute resolution services and have significant experience of all forms of dispute resolution, including mediation, expert determination, early neutral evaluation, arbitration and litigation proceedings. We are experienced in dealing with document intensive and technically complex project disputes and associated project management methodologies. We are also currently very busy dealing with a number of high profile cyber, data protection and privacy disputes and expect this to be a substantial growth area for our team with the arrival of GDPR and as issues of online privacy come into the litigation spotlight in the next few years. The Candidate Required We are looking for a 3-5 PQE Associate to further strengthen the team. The successful candidate will have excellent academics and will have gained experience in an international firm or in a large national firm. The role does not require a technical TMT background, but it would be helpful if applicants have experience of TMT disputes as well as cyber or data privacy matters. The cases we work on are often large and high profile involving significant factual, technical and legal complexity. Candidates will need to demonstrate an appetite for getting involved and strong organisational skills. Since we almost invariably work in teams; the successful candidate will need to be a natural communicator and have a desire to work closely with others. Role responsibilities Specialism in large IT and outsourcing contract disputes resolution and dispute avoidance including but not limited to: Advising clients on rights and liabilities in respect of distressed projects Compliance with dispute resolution provisions Advising and facilitating remedial measures and appropriate dispute preparation activities Advising and facilitating commercial negotiations to fix distressed projects and avoid substantive disputes Acting on substantive disputes in relation to IT and Outsourcing projects (whether in arbitration, litigation or other forms of ADR) including: Termination disputes Disputes about scope and delay to
