Overview

Key Purpose of the Job To support the Finance Director in the effective financial management and control service to the Trust in general and academies in particular. Provide reliable analysis to the Director of Finance. Provide sound financial advice to Academy Principals, senior leadership team and other colleagues. Duties and responsibilities ? Contribute to and implement the Trust’s financial management strategy centrally and for academies ? Maintain and contribute to the development of systems for budgeting, financial administration, cash flow forecasting and final accounts centrally and for academies ? Work in conjunction with other staff and contractors to ensure that the finance system is developed and deployed effectively ? Assist in producing reports for the Trust Board and local Governing Bodies ensuring they receive timely, accurate and informative reports on the finances and financial prospects which ensure effective accountability and provide a robust basis for decision making ? In conjunction with the Director of Finance, implement financial policy and procedures centrally and for academies ? Maintain and develop systems for financial assurance, including internal audit arrangements that ensure the Trust and academies comply with their responsibilities as stewards of public funds ? Assist the financial director in the production of the statutory final accounts in conjunction with Trust external auditors ? Prepare accurate and timely consolidated accounts and financial reports centrally and for Heads of School and Budget Holders on a Half Termly basis ? Assist in the preparation of the Academy's statutory accounts in conjunction with external auditors and other specialist advisors. ? Across the Academy, ensure the delivery of accurate and timely budgets, accounts and cash flow reports ? In conjunction with the Director of Finance, supervise the preparation of annual budgets and short/medium/long term financial forecasts, in line with Academies financial policies, for approval by the relevant boards or committees. This will also require liaison with and assistance to relevant academy and central staff. ? Maintain an effective system of internal control across the Academy to minimise the risk of fraud and error in keeping accounts and accounting for financial income and expenditure ? Liaise with banks and other financial institutions in relation to the Academy’s financial arrangements ? Liaise with external and internal auditors and/or responsible officer(s) to ensure that financial reports and records are available in the format and at the time required for auditing purposes ? Maintain a full grasp of available funding streams and with relevant central and staff ensure the Academy maximises its available funding opportunities. Where appropriate, liaise with external experts ? Maintain a good working knowledge of VAT and all other tax matters as they impact the Academy ? Assist in the analysis of financial data and projections and use this to inform financial decision making of the Academy and constituent academies ? Work with the Director of Finance in analysing and obtaining best value for services supplied across the group, including proactive reviews of best value opportunities ? Enter transactions into the Trust’s financial accounting system (PS Financials) ? Maintain accurate central supplier details on PS Financials ? Undertake an annual review and update of the inventory prior to the Trust’s audit
