Overview

The main purpose of the Lab Materials Technician role is to undertake materials testing and development of products and accessories within the Laboratory, setting up the apparatus to defined specifications, undertaking calibration, preparing samples and undertaking the test, recording & reporting the results accurately. Key Activities and Responsibilities Safe operation of complex materials test equipment. Coordinate with laboratory manager to ensure successful test completion to schedule. Carrying out weekly safety checks. Finite planning of tests in line with general schedule agreed with the manager. Liaison with UK internal departments for availability of materials. Reading, interpreting and becoming familiar with BS, EN and IEC testing standards. Setting up and performing materials tests as defined in relevant test procedures. Monitoring of all tests & accurately recording results. Writing technical reports. Liaison with customers over technical queries. Participation in development of product accessories as defined. Control and purchasing of materials. Management of annual calibrations of test equipment, including equipment removal. Coordination of plant maintenance activities. Participation in site examinations in case of technical problems or queries. Skills and Experience Educated to a HNC or above in a technical discipline. Preferably practical experience in materials testing or laboratory processes Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Self-motivated, good manual & practical skills, high safety awareness. Highly organised and able to work on own with minimal supervision.
