About us Our client is an International Insurer, underwriting a diverse portfolio of property, casualty, marine and other specialty & reinsurance business on a world-wide basis. These products are underwritten through Lloyd's of London, and regionally through commercial insurance routes. The role The role of Claims Adjuster is to work closely as part of the team, supporting Senior Claims Adjusters and reporting into the Claims Manager. This involves exemplifying and reinforcing the claims and reserving philosophies through day to day handling of claims and, if appropriate, through supervision of other members of the team (including secondees). The Claims Adjuster is required to contribute through their own work and, if appropriate supervision of other team members, to achieving the KPIs set in the annual Claims Business Plan and to identify areas of improvement in the team and to provide proactive feedback to the Claims Manager. Further, in order to deliver on our claims philosophy, this requires exceptional skills by the Claims Adjuster by developing and maintaining relationships both internally (within the claims team, with the underwriting, outwards reinsurance and actuarial teams) and externally (notably brokers, (re)insureds, co-insurers and service providers). Key accountabilities Display energy, enthusiasm and the desire to improve the service provided - whether through the handling of claims or through interaction internally or externally. Communicate ideas and suggestions to further this aim to the Claims Manager. Exemplify the claims philosophy and reserving philosophy through one's own conduct and claims handling; demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the requirements of the Claims Handling Manual and other team and company procedures. Escalate any issues to senior management as required under the Claims Handling Manual and raise any areas of uncertainty promptly so that they can be resolved. Handle both complex and non-complex claims from first notification through to final settlement. Update in-house and London market claim related systems in relation to individual claims and ensure the following market are kept apprised of key developments and key information (for example claim potential where this is not fully reserved). Diarise and triage claims as required by the Claims Handling Manual and subject these decisions to regular challenge and review. Prioritise claims with significant potential for review and provide or seek challenge on this assessment and to review the reserve is in accordance with the reserving philosophy. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with brokers and (re)insureds and inspire the confidence of our co-insurers and reinsurers. Raise the profile through excellent interactions. Actively manage and take responsibility for the quality of services from TPAs (with delegated claims authority) as well as lawyers, loss adjusters and any other service providers who represent us. Identify any shortcomings in service and deal with these quickly and professionally and escalate as is necessary to protect the department's interests and those of our customers. Internally develop and maintain excellent working relationships with other adjusters within the team, actuaries and underwriters Contribute through own work to achieving the KPI's set in the annual Claims Business Plan and to identify areas of improvement in the Team and to provide proactive feedback to the Claims Manager. Provide meaningful input into the Marine and Energy claims team monthly and quarterly reports and Combined Ratio meeting preparation; take responsibility for your designated claims portfolio and area and openly report any claims trends and actual or anticipated developments on significant claims and provide any status updates or reports as required. Work with the Claims Manager on claims initiatives and projects to reach specific goals. Work with the underwriting team to provide input and insight for renewals and new business. Keep the underwriting team updated on claim specific developments throughout the year through regular dialogue and identify and communicate any recommendations for changes to wordings utilising particular claims experiences to the underwriting team. Provide the Actuarial and Outward Reinsurance teams with immediate notice of significant claims. Identify trends or concerns and respond promptly to queries raised. Skills & experience Have an understanding of the insurance industry and how it works. Claims experience with understanding of Energy, Liabilty or Terrorism preferred. Be willing to work towards the ACII qualification. Demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills in the English language. Have good IT (Microsoft Office) skills, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook and ability to use or learn our in-house system Possess strong independent organisational skills Be able to analyse claims data in order to spot trending and report upwards on key developments in the claims portfolio.
