Role summary The role of Principal Enterprise Architect reports to the Information Technology (IT) Director, responsible for developing and maintaining a detailed technology strategy roadmap and multi-year implementation plan which both enables and enhances the overall company business long-term strategy. Advises and Supports the business in making sound technology decisions and prioritisation of IT investment through the establishment, management and participation in IT / Business Steering Committees as required. Accountable for Enterprise Architecture initiatives spanning all aspects of IT technology & security strategy, compliance and governance. Includes providing leadership, direction and support to project-based IT teams delivering the overall programme of IT transformation. Works with Business and Technology stakeholders to define & agree IT technology & security standards, principals and policies, ensures that these are pragmatically applied across the organisation and subsequently is responsible for the associated quality & risk management The position focuses on ensuring that the IT organisation "does the right things" through strategy and governance, as well as "doing things right" through organisational / operational model development and performance management. What you'll be doing Leads the creation or evolution of the enterprise architecture program/function. Promoting the business value of the EA program/function its process, and the results of the EA program to business and IT leaders/executives. Ensures the appropriate development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance Ensures that appropriate governance, performance management, reporting and the definition of IT ways of working (for example, common methodologies, processes, and tools for developing and operating IT) are deployed and effective. Partners with the IT Director and works alongside the Head of IT Projects & Programme Management to ensure project deliveries work towards the defined target state Work with business peers to develop and present business capability models and roadmaps to facilitate discussion and decision making with stakeholders across the enterprise. Lead analysis of the business' future-state capabilities and future (and current) IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement and driving the business forward. Develop diagnostic and actionable deliverables that help the business guide investment decisions in support of executing business strategy. Promotes shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and improve information flow. Stays current with developments in new technology market trends and innovations, cyber threats, and is a proactive leader of enterprise IT. Management of all Enterprise Architects and subject matter specialists (whether internal or external specialist 3rd parties) Ensures that company-wide IT services are designed and implemented in a way that protects the company and its customers from cyber-attack, and remains compliant with all relevant regulations, customer accreditations and audits. Fully understands impact and likelihood of IT risks and ensures that these are addressed during design and implementation of the IT transformation programme, and deployment of new technologies for the business. What we're looking for Practical and decisive TOGAF certified Enterprise Architect with extensive technical and senior leadership responsibilities. Strategically focused with a hands-on approach and ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions. Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, micro services, event-driven IT and predictive analytics. Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype. Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders. Comfortable, experienced and accomplished at working with business executives, and able to push back in a professional and diplomatic way. Solution and delivery mind-set, operates effectively delivering strategic direction, solutions, governance and services, consistent with business requirements and enterprise standards. Ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions. Logical approach to understanding business challenges and developing appropriate mid to long term strategies to empower the business to grow and gain efficiency. Knowledge of IT development and support in the Government/Defence domain is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others. Experience in business / industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects.
