Overview
We are currently recruiting on behalf of the council in Islington for a Principal Planning Officer, who will be part of the Major Applications Team. This will be on a contracting basis starting from 13th April for five to six months. Islington is one of the most vibrant and dynamic parts of London and is experiencing significant growth in housing and employment. The council has adopted ambitious planning policies to ensure that all our communities benefit from this growth whilst protecting and enhancing the borough’s unique character. Enhancing the built environment through high quality design is therefore an important Council objective. Key Attributes required 1. Thorough appreciation and understanding of relevant legislation and its interpretation 5. Ability to represent the Council at Planning Committee, pre-application meetings and with residents and councillors The Council have an exciting opportunity to join the Major Applications Team in the role of Principal Planner. The team deals with a vast range of application types and range of heritage assets and schemes of varying ambition. You would be joining a team of other Principal Planners and senior Managers, who work to preserve and enhance the borough’s architectural heritage, and contribute to the delivery of inclusive, high quality new development. Therefore, the Council are looking for a dynamic, positive and hardworking professional who will be able to assist the team in the delivery of some significant and complex schemes within Islington’s historic environment and wider townscape by balancing growth, conservation and high quality place making. Key functions are managing relevant caseloads associated with a Major Planning Applications, including making recommendations, handling any appeals and representing the Council at Informal Hearings and Public Inquiries and any associated Court proceedings. The role also includes engagement with developers through Planning Performance Agreements, negotiating high quality outcomes to schemes and supporting the decision-making processes of the Planning Authority.
