Overview

A HR Manager is required for this higher educational establishment to provide a comprehensive HR service to Academic and Professional Services staff which ensures managers and employees are equipped with best practice to develop and encourage high performance culture. The HR Manager’s role will be hands on and will be required to provide effective management of the overall HR Operations and delivery of objectives. Main Duties and responsibilities: • Lead and manage a comprehensive People service through a range of projects and activities in areas such as, but not limited to: - Workforce planning and Recruitment; - On-boarding/exit and Employment Services; - Performance Management; - Learning and Development; - Compensation, Payroll and Benefits; - Employment Law Compliance; - Employee Relations. Strategic and Policy: • To communicate fully with the Head of People (HR) & Engagement on all significant issues • To provide a general advice and support service to all staff within the School, in line with established School personnel policies and procedures. • To develop, review and implement School HR policies, procedures and practices within the School. • To input creatively to the formulation of HR projects, initiatives and developments within the School, including input to staff review. • To keep up to date with employment law and liaise with the Charity’s legal advisers when necessary (and with the prior approval of the Head of People (HR) & Engagement to ensure the Charity is protected. February 2020 Contracts of Employment: • To review contract terms and employment status on a case by case basis and provide relevant information to the finance department for payrolls. • Ensure that contracts are drafted and raised for all professional services and faculty staff including visiting lecturers. Employee Health and Welfare: • To advise line managers on dealing with ad hoc and long term health issues of staff including occupational health referrals, etc • To manage Maternity and Paternity leave arrangements, including ensuring Maternity Risk Assessments are undertaken within the School by the trained assessor. Staff Development and Engagement • Manage effectively the performance management system ensuring that organisational values are translated into measurable competencies, behaviours and objectives, and that appraisals are carried out accordingly. • To ensure all staff receives timely appraisals by managing the appraisal process and ensuring that best practice is followed by line managers and in accordance with school policy. • To identify training needs for input on training on a School based plan • To promote equality and diversity as part of the culture of the organisation departmental Staff • To manage staff on a day to day basis within the HR Department to ensure that they work productively and effectively. • To conduct an annual appraisal for each HR department staff member and to assist them with their professional development. • Monthly preparation and checking of payroll. • Administer all benefits, such as pensions, BUPA, death in service, etc. to ensure accurate administration of salary payment of all staff • To monitor the annual salary review within the School’s policy and guidelines in consultation with department heads and the UK Director. To make sure any changes in individual remuneration is implemented. • To advise employees of any changes and inform employees on company benefits. Employee Relations: • To assist and advise line managers within the School with individual employee relations issues including disciplinary, grievances, flexible working etc. • To lead and advise on complex cases • To manage any redundancy issues with the support of the Head of People (HR) & Engagement. Recruitment / Selection / Induction / Probation/Administration/Departure: • To advise managers on and co-ordinate all aspects of the staff recruitment and selection process from establishment of posts through to offer of employment and on boarding. • To ensure appropriate induction procedures are in place for all new staff within the School. February 2020 • To ensure suitable probation process is in place,including providing advice to managers to ensure probation process is managed effectively and any development needs are addressed as early as possible. • Manage staff files, including records of holidays, absences and sickness. • To conduct exit interviews for staff leaving the school. To be responsible for the preparation reports, correspondence for Trustee meetings and committees, researching information & initiating action, as necessary. • Analyse and use HR metrics and data to inform the Senior Management Team’s decisions. • To ensure that an organised and comprehensive filing system on HR records and staffing matters is maintained within the School with due regard to GDPR, related legislation and School policies. • To ensure complete confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Person Specification • Payroll experience, previous use of ADP would be desirable. • Knowledge and previous use of HR Systems. • The flexibility and willingness to learn. • High level of confidentiality • Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills. • Strong communication skills both written and verbal. • Excellent IT Skills i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint • CIPD Level 5 Qualification is desirable. • Experience of Managing Staff • Previous experience in Higher Education is desirable
