Overview
Oakleaf have a rare and exciting vacancy for a Senior Support Worker to join our team at our acute mental health hospital in Mundesley, Ideally the post holder will have experience in a similar setting, be confident with managing challenging behaviour and have a positive approach to their work. The successful candidate will be required to lead a small team in certain areas of the hospital in the absence of an immediately available registered nurse and will therefore be effective and autonomous in their practice, they will be confident and proactive and a role model to their colleagues. Southern Hill Hospital has 25 mental health beds across two wards, as well as a 5 bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Southern Hill Hospital is able to offer a 24 hour acute admission within a safe and secure environment. All applicants will have a minimum of 12 months experience in care and will have completed or will be working towards QCF Level 3 in health & Social Care (or equivalent) The main function of a Senior Support Worker is to provide care in accordance with best practice, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements and government regulations under the direction of the line manager. This position includes a number of responsibilities supporting nursing and management through audits, contribution to care plans, training and mentoring other support workers and leading the team. Main duties of the senior support worker:- 1. Lead the team on a day to day basis through the shift you are allocated. 2. Ensure all relevant daily documentation is completed by you and your team to ensure effective and safe continuity of care. 3. Assist service users individually as required to support them with daily routines and activities and role model/ teach other to complete to a high standard. 4. Be a positive role model at all times, a mentor to junior staff and a link between junior staff and senior staff. 5. ensure all incidents and behaviours are recorded and reported effectively and accurately 6. provide supervision to junior carers and ensure that all new starters have an induction to all areas of the home 7. Systematically solve day-to-day problematical issues which arise. 8. Work in cooperation with members of multi-disciplinary health teams so as to maximise opportunities for service user therapeutic care. 9. Assist in the design and administration of an evaluation of the care standards and care service provision. 10. Evaluate care plans and standards of care competence. 11. Cooperate with the implementation, evaluation, orientation and induction of all new employees. 12. Conducting audits and risk assessments related to service users, premises, business and service. 13. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the standards required by legislation related to the registration of the service. 14. Maintain an awareness of the Health and Safety requirements. 15. Maintain client and business confidentiality at all times
