Overview

Title: Senior Scientist Location: Gosport, UK PO12 3BY Duration: 6-7 months To plan scientific or technical projects to define a part of the research and development programme. To lead and carry out research and development to deliver agreed project outputs which significantly improve systems, products or advice. To lead the presentation and publication/documentation of work internally and externally in order to communicate advice and/or maintain scientific/technical capability and integrity and to promote reputation. To train and support staff both within their team and more widely to enhance scientific/technical capability. To manage the scientific or technical research projects to improve systems or products. To educate and train personnel involved in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program in the field of reactor physics up to RQF Level 7 (Masters level). This requires the post holder to be a technical expert and to deliver education in the form of lectures, tutorials and research project design and supervision. The Senior Lecturer in Theoretical Reactor Physics must have in-depth expert knowledge and understanding such that they can educate personnel in areas which include: Nuclear fission Neutron reactions, the neutron spectrum and moderation Multiplication constant and reactivity Reactor components, design and materials Different types of reactor and their relative merits The naval pressurised water reactor design and operation Modelling neutron fluxes using diffusion and transport approaches Reactor dynamics Neutron transport codes using deterministic and Monte-Carlo approaches To participate in the design, development, execution and asssessment of courses in Reactor Physics conducted by Nuclear Faculty; To design, supervise and assess student projects
