Overview

Our client is a specialist law firm headquartered in London with offices across the United Kingdom. They provide a full range of human rights services including personal injury, employment and discrimination and clinical negligence. They are now looking to hire a Legal Aid Biller on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate will have legal aid experience and previously worked in a law firm. Responsibilities Preparing fixed fee and escape claim Legal Help bills to submit to the Legal Aid Agency (“LAA”). Preparing exceptional claims to submit to the LAA. Collating disbursement vouchers, invoices and counsel’s fee notes. Preparing files for submission to the LAA. Using CCMS to submit and progress bills (including via bulk upload where necessary); Requesting and allocating payments on account. Liaising with counsel’s clerks and experts. Preparing complex claims to send to costs draftsmen, including drafting instructions and collating relevant documents. General document administration including, filing, scanning, and archiving General liaison with the LAA regarding the processing of bills (via CCMS and by telephone where necessary) Tracking the progress of cases in costing and liaising with fee earners to ensure smooth and timely billing of files. Working closely with fee earners in the department and our accounts team. Candidate Profile Previous experience preparing legal aid bills and using CCMS electronic billing system is essential Ability to use software packages (in particular Excel and relevant document management systems)
