Your new role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Travel Engagement Officer to join the South Essex Active Team on a full time and FTC basis until 31st March 2021. This role is part of the Travel Engagement Team of ForwardMotion, a project that encourages people to choose active travel across South Essex. The role involves organising and attending events across the sub region, engaging with members of the public, job seekers, employees and students and offering active travel advice and information. The role includes travel across South Essex and working closely with a small team of Travel Engagement Officers overseen by our Travel Coordinator. The role also involves identifying and responding to opportunities to take our message to new areas and organisations, contacting business and organisations to make them aware of our services and working with the wider team that deliver behaviour change interventions and cycling, walking and public transport initiatives. What you'll need to succeed The role is very public facing so you will have excellent communication skills and be able to engage individuals in dynamic conversations, be able to listen and inspire people to choose active travel. You'll be able to communicate detailed and complex information in an accessible and non-intimidating way. You'll be well organised and self-motivated. You'll be part of a close knit dynamic team of 4 officers working out in the community and supporting each other so you'll be a good team player as well as being able to work on your own and with initiative. You'll be an ambassador for active and sustainable transport and you'll have good knowledge of the active travel options available to people in South Essex including an understanding of bus and train services and how to read timetables and plan a journey. You'll be able to use basic ICT equipment and use word and spreadsheet software packages. You'll also be able to support clients to engage with our online tools and services. Full and clean driving licence is desirable. To meet the demand of the role, you will be required to work some early morning, weekend and evenings.
