Overview

On behalf of our client, a family-run independent fostering agency that provides a specialist fostering service to Local Authorities, Employment Plus are now looking to recruit a Supervising Social Worker to work for our client on a full-time permanent basis. You will be based in Thetford in Norfolk, and covering the Norfolk / Suffolk area. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES To manage an agreed foster carer case load. To co-ordinate the preparations and arrangements for children and young people, following matching, to move into the Carers' home, including liaison with the Referrals Co-ordinator, Carers, Placing Social Workers and any others as appropriate. To be present, at the Carers' home, with the Carers' to receive the Child/Young person into the family and participate in the settling-in arrangements as well as preparation of the Placement Agreement and any other documentation as required. To make home visits to designated Foster Carers every 4 weeks, or at other intervals, to include unannounced visits at least on a yearly basis as agreed with the Line Manager, to provide supervision, advice and support, including monitoring the Carers' childcare practices. To make home visits to the Carers as soon as possible after a new Child has moved in. To keep up to date records of all visits to be maintained as required by Agency Policies and Procedures. To co-ordinate and facilitate supervision groups with foster carers on a monthly basis. To maintain regular contact with Placing Social Workers thereby facilitating the exchange of significant information between Social Workers, the Agency and Carers. To keep up to date records of such transactions to be lodged on the appropriate files. To liaise with and work alongside Foster Carers to facilitate the preparation of formal reports for reviews, planning meetings, child protection conferences, and court. To attend Placement Agreement and Planning meetings and reviews and follow through decisions made at those forums, particularly for Company action, e.g. arranging assessments, therapy etc. To prepare reports for Foster Carer Annual Reviews. To attend the agency and Local Authority Fostering Panels as and when required. To participate in any Recruitment Processes, Induction/Training of new Carers as appropriate to role. To undertake the Assessment process for potential foster carers as directed by Line Manager. To work within the administrative, policy and procedural requirements of the agency. To complete all case records fully and to agreed timescales and ensure that these are logged on the CHARMS database. To attend team meetings, supervision and staff training when requested. To be included in the 'On call' Rota. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post-holders levels of responsibility as may be agreed with post-holder from time to time. About You: You will hold a recognized social work qualification: CQSW, BA, Dip. SW or other relevant degree qualification. and have current HCPC registration. Preferably a minimum of three years' social work experience including Children and Families field work and fostering experience. A comprehensive and current knowledge of relevant legislation relating to children and families and family placements, including knowledge of the Children Act 1989, the Care Planning Regulations 2010, the Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011 and the National Minimum Standards. A thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures. Knowledge of the needs of looked after children and young people and the role of the foster carer. An understanding of Equal Opportunities, Equality and Diversity as well as Data Protection and Confidentiality procedures. Competent IT skills are essential. A knowledge of CHARMS database system is desirable but not essential as training will be given. To possess integrity and honesty To demonstrate commitment to service delivery which is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of all users. An ability to prioritise work according to the exigencies of the service and delivery. The willingness to work unsociable hours when required. An ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with individuals, groups, social services departments, government departments, voluntary organisations and private businesses. An ability to offer support and supervision to carers with focus on achieving the best outcomes for children and young people. To be able to respond to difficult issues with resilience, flexibility and empathy.
