Overview
THE BUSINESS Our client is a market leader in its sector, with a long and successful track record. With a core business that is well established, they additionally have a new division in a highly interesting, topical and innovative sector. The business is now looking to hire a Head of Legal / Sole Counsel to play a key role in supporting the delivery of strategic objectives, and work closely with the senior management team to reach these goals. THE ROLE As Head of Legal you will provide high-quality, practical and solutions orientated legal advice, manage the external legal spend, oversee company secretarial activity for the Group, ensure the Group's intellectual property portfolio is effectively managed, and ensure the Group's various policies on business conduct (anti-bribery, data protection and competition law compliance) and contract management are effective. This is a highly diverse role which, on a day to day basis, will incorporate the following matters: - Provide legal counsel on significant contractual issues and disputes - Be responsible for horizon scanning in relation to legislation that might have a critical impact on the business - Manage the Group's external legal advisors (including support of intellectual property and business critical matters) - Oversee to ensure relevant filings are completed - Help to promote a climate of good corporate governance - Draft contracts, letters and other legal documentation to manage the Group's legal relationships with third parties - Manage all litigation matters for the Group - Lead and guide the business on any regulatory investigations or inquiries - Advise on all strategic legal issues within the business including contract law, employment law, competition law, data protection, tort and any other relevant legal requirements ABOUT YOU The successful applicant will need a broad legal skillset, and the creativity to develop pragmatic solutions in complex areas. You will also be an effective communicator with the ability to influence and persuade through personal credibility, integrity and professionalism. As an experienced in house lawyer you will also have strong organisation and planning skills including the ability to balance both the short and long-term, attention to detail, and be personally robust with the ability to operate at highest levels internally and externally. The business is headquartered in South Yorkshire, just off the M1 and has easy transport links to Sheffield and the surrounding area.
