Overview
About the role You will play an essential role in ensuring NEON’s social movement trainings are delivered and managed to a high standard. You will work closely with the Director of Movement Building, other NEON staff and our associate trainer pool to develop and manage our training programmes; primarily our national course Movement Builders, which skills up activists, campaigners and organisers with strategic movement analysis and brings them together to explore collective action. This role will sit alongside the Head of Organising and Head of Coaching roles, under the umbrella of the new Movement Building Hub. In addition to this, you will work across NEON to develop new content and embed liberatory training approaches across other trainings run by NEON. You will also play a key role in developing and enacting the Movement Building Hub’s strategy inside NEON, working collaboratively with our Organising and Coaching teams to design and implement tailored and effective social movement support packages. We’re looking for an experienced trainer and project manager, committed to decolonising training spaces and empowering those fighting for social, environmental and economic justice. As the Head of Training, it is not your job to know all the content we teach, but you will ensure that all of our content is delivered well across all of the Movement Building Hub trainings, and with a training approach that centres marginalised people and their experiences. Key Skills and Experience Proven track record in designing, delivering and evaluating exceptional training programmes, with considerable experience in training for social justice work Project management experience, including management of programme finances and some experience of line management, which may be volunteers Experience managing budgets and fundraising, although this could be in a support role A strong understanding of what makes good training with an ability to respond to the different learning needs of diverse groups in different cultural contexts Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with people from a range of different backgrounds and perspectives Experience of working within or supporting social movements in a paid or unpaid capacity Growing levels of self-awareness, including an understanding of how your background has shaped you and how you relate to people. Ability to give and receive feedback on this in a safe and constructive way Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion An affinity with NEON’s aims, objectives and organisational values of solidarity, generosity and respect About NEON The New Economy Organisers Network (NEON) is a not-for-profit company with 12 staff members, growing to up to 15 staff by the end of this year. We also work with a range of contractors and Associates and incubate other organisations. We are a network of over 1,600 UK organisers from different trade unions, grassroots groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), faith-based campaigns, civil society groups and movements from across the country. We run powerful trainings and support campaigns to help progressives win social, economic and environmental justice. We run trainings, share skills and coordinate together on campaigns helping people to lead movements like Just Treatment (organising patients to fight for the NHS) through to working with our members to get over 2,500 media bookings across the UK’s biggest TV/radio outlets. We’re ambitious and the team is agile, fast paced and committed to actually changing things.
