Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Financial Controller for a well-established, forward thinking, family run business based in Liverpool. This is a newly created role, where your role will be to manage the efforts of the financial team and ensure KPIs are met, taking responsibility of all financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting whilst providing advice to the Directors on financial plans and associated risk. Currently the business is operating at a Turnover of Circa 21m, the role is a key in implementing strong financial systems and processes to allow for future growth. There are exciting and ambitious plans for the next 5 years to increase the Turnover to 50m. Key responsibilities and duties of this role... * Provide financial expertise to assist the company in its plan to grow in the next 5 years. * Manage the process of bringing the Accounting function in-house (currently all outsourced to a 3rd party accountant). * Prepare the monthly management accounts and management pack. * Present performance results at the monthly management meetings and quarterly Board meetings. * Support month-end process to ensure monthly management accounts. * Analyse the financial impact of important business investments (e.g. property purchases, acquisitions, etc.) * Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budgets and financial forecasts whilst identifying and challenging variances each month. * Use Activity Based Costing to analyse the true cost of selling all the different products, to assist in making decisions about products and pricing. * Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for cost reduction opportunities. * Prepare new cash flow forecast scenarios when required for any changes that will have significant impact on the cash flow. * Support year-end close process to ensure Year End Financials for the previous trading year, including all Audit requirements. * Supervise and lead a team, ensuring all members of the team are motivated and supporting in daily tasks and problem solving. * Develop new/improve existing systems and processes to prevent errors. * Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. * Manage cash flow and bank balances daily by tracking transactions and reviewing relevant reports from different departments ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and resolve any discrepancies. * Seek expert tax/legal advice from external sources and implement changes where appropriate whilst proactively taking advantage of any tax relief available. * Maintain banking relationships and liaise with the bank regarding any new products/solution, whilst regularly reviewing banking solutions best suited to the business needs. * Maintain appropriate insurance coverage (financial risk management). * Ensure that the company is kept up to date with any changes in legislation. Requirements The ideal candidate will have the following skills, attributes and qualifications... * Fully qualified Accountant (CFA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA). * Experience of working in a high growth environment. * Proven track record with several years experience of financial control, management reporting and cost analysis is key. * Previous experience of working in an import/export or buy/sell environment (VAT, Intrastat, deferment VAT, duty.) * Experienced with accounting software and highly skilled with Excel. * Experience in implement and improving systems. * Strong leadership and people development skills. * Meticulous attention to detail, very organised and ability to work to deadlines. * Problem solving mindset, with ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders. * Excellent communication and presentation skills.
