This new business unit will be a global leader in engineering excellence and act as the catalyst for the development and validation of enhanced digital technologies such as 5G, the internet-of-things, artificial intelligence, cyber security and advanced visualisation technologies to create innovative engineering solutions of the future. The business is now looking to recruit a new Chief Solutions Architect to join their senior management team. Chief Solutions Architect Key relationships: Line manage and accountable for direct reports Functionally reporting into the Head of Digital (CTO Team), with sector alignment to the Digital Engineering Business Unit Director Working closely with the Chief Engineer, Digital Engineering Business Unit Director, Digital Engineering Programme Manager and Digital Engineering Market Development Manager to secure, define and deliver programmes within the Digital Engineering business unit Primary point of contact for Operational Technology (OT), Information Technology (IT), Internet of things (IOT) and other related software and digital technology customers within the Digital Engineering business unit Formulate and maintain relationships across the business and with external organisations e.g. suppliers and other Catapult centres to share best practice and create collaborative opportunities Close working relationship with IT operations unit at the business and other delivery partners and their teams, to secure specialist engineering resource and develop OT, IT, IOT and other related digital technical strategy Represents and advocates for the Digital Engineering business unit at technical forums Liaise between the Programme Managers and their teams, Delivery Partners, and customers (existing and potential) to develop new projects to identify, develop and support opportunities. Role Purpose: To support the development of the Digital Engineering capability, particularly aligned to future state of OT, IT and IOT software and hardware architectures as part of future national and regional initiatives To establish and maintain, in collaboration with IT operations teams, an appropriate DevOps (development and testing) environment to explore OT, IT and IOT solutions architectures in an agile fashion To help secure future funding and deliver major IT related programmes of collaborative research and development within the domain of Digital Engineering Accountable for the technical definition and delivery of all IT related programmes / projects within the sector by providing technical governance and where relevant, acting as technical authority / independent reviewer Ensure Digital Engineering programme / project scope and deliverables meet customer requirements and expectations In coordination with the CTO, chief engineer and the Head of Digital lead the technical strategy for the Digital Engineering business unit, working with the Value Stream Managers, customers and wider industry to formulate and deliver technical roadmaps, To line manage and develop direct reports within the Digital Engineering business unit. Skills and Competencies Required Masters in IT, software engineering, Computer Science other relevant degree / qualification Proven experience in engineering and software architecture design. In-depth understanding of coding languages (Java, JavaScript). Sound knowledge of various operating systems and databases and emerging technologies associated to OT, IOT, networking and cyber security Experience of people management Significant experience of providing technical governance and leadership to engineering programmes Experience of managing time, cost and quality in engineering projects.
