This post is a manager role to work within the engineering function in Boeing Defence UK (BDUK). BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,500 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C aircraft, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, through-life support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services We are looking for a Chief Engineer UK E-7 Wedgetail to join our dynamic and growing engineering team to lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver the contracted range of products and services into the UK E-7 programme in accordance with MAA Regulatory requirements The successful candidate will report to Chief Engineer BDUK and will liaise directly with senior programme management, fellow Chief Engineers across the E-7 community and the customer equivalent to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of engineering products and services to meet customer contracted requirements. Responsibilities: The role requires the direct coordination of all assigned engineering personnel to the E-7 programme, along with a number of direct reports, as well as the co-ordination with other functions to ensure flawless engineering delivery to the E-7 customer throughout the lifecycle of the platform, including air and ground mission segments and incorporating significant information integration requirements. Integrated working with Boeing counterparts in the US and Australia is an essential part of the role. As Chief Engineer UK E-7 Wedgetail, the successful applicant will: Be responsible for the Safety and Product Integrity of the UK elements of the programme Have final Responsibility, Accountability and Authority for the specification, configuration, design and certification/verification (including all changes) Lead for Regulatory issues and Military Aviation Authority or other appropriate regulators relationship for the Engineering component of the programme, coordinating with the senior Operations manager as necessary for Pt145 requirements Be the senior Customer Technical Interface for the UK component of the programme Be the Senior Engineering leader for the UK E-7 programme, providing the coordinating interface, which integrates the variety of engineering capabilities with other functions and programme leadership. Promote Company Engineering Excellence and the First Time Quality initiative across all engineering functions assigned to the E-7 programme. Ensure technical conduct, progress, performance, and results are executed in compliance with programme requirements, plans, programme charter and Responsibility, Accountability & Authority (RAA). Provide technical leadership for the programme and associated proposals and be the technical interface to customers and suppliers. Provide an effective link between design, production and in-service engineering activity. Establish a culture of proactive technical oversight, risk management and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and opening dialogue on technical issues. Implement and enforce engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices; drive productivity improvements through the use of the Continuous Improvement disciplines; and share Best Practices and Lessons Learned. Furthermore, the Chief Engineer UK E-7 Wedgetail shall establish a culture of 'help needed' within the technical community, advocating Mission Assurance, Technical Independent Reviews, Non Advocate Reviews, and ensuring technical expertise across the enterprise are made available as required. Work with Programme and Operations Management to ensure successful technical delivery and programme execution. Work with functional counterparts to understand and ensure process inputs and outputs are clearly defined to enable products and services to meet requirements and delivered on schedule and within costs. Chair E-7 technical reviews and boards and ensure effective support to Mission Assurance activities. Acts as the initial engineering POC for any new tasks/projects. Act as Mentor and or Coach to peers. Requirements: Proven experience as a manager in a dynamic and complex technical environment involving large multi-disciplined teams. Significant experience operating within the MAA regulatory environment or civil equivalent on large aircraft is essential; experience on Boeing 737 derivatives desirable. Experience of mission systems integration in both air and ground environments is highly desirable. A significant leadership background is essential with demonstrated experience both leading and developing teams, delivering results in a complex matrix environment in support of business and mission critical requirements.
