Overview

Citizens Advice Lewisham (CAL) is an independent charity and a member of the national Citizens Advice organisation. We deliver free, impartial and confidential advice to those who live, work or study in the London borough of Lewisham. We provide advice to some of the most vulnerable groups in our area, and help to gain access to justice, prevent homelessness, tackle discrimination, resolve debt problems, and maximise incomes. We campaign to bring about improvements for local people, from tackling illegal money lending to compiling evidence on domestic violence. Chair Unremunerated Lewisham This year, we are expected to serve around 26,000 people and on track to reach our target of 30,000 per annum through a variety of channels. We generate millions in income and benefits for clients through casework and representation. Much of this is delivered as the lead partner of Advice Lewisham, the council funded network of information and advice agencies across the borough. We have also established a new venture to set up a Lewisham Law Service. It is developing well with an initial focus on housing. There are plans to further fundraise to expand the employment and immigration service in the borough. As Chair of the Trustee Board you will apply your exceptional skills and knowledge to develop successful Board strategy, working effectively with the dedicated Board and Chief Executive, and make a difference to the lives of people in the local community. You will have experience of strategic leadership at a senior level, board experience gained from the public, private or social sector and have the ability to serve as an effective ambassador for Citizens Advice Lewisham. Critically, you will be motivated by the vision and mission of Citizens Advice Lewisham.
