Overview

Job Description

Full time/live in carer needed - ASAP Dates: 8 weeks from 16th June 2020 - 11th August 2020 (initially) Pay: £500 a week. Accommodation and meals provided Location: Mullaghbawn, Newry We are seeking a self-employed live-in carer to work alongside my mother in caring for my 86 year old father who is a stroke survivor with limited mobility and varying energy but a real desire to keep moving. The hired carer would be working on rotation with another carer in 8 week blocks (approx.) should the initial period work out.* Duties Primarily, the task is to give personal care to my father (help moving around the house, toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, etc.) and to be responsible for delivering basic daily physio. As he is unable to get into and out of bed without the assistance of two people, the carer must be willing to live in the house, though night time disturbance is a rarity. Additionally we wish to find someone who will be willing to be a companion and help to my mother. Our expectation is that the successful applicant would undertake domestic tasks such as sharing the responsibility for cleaning, cooking, shopping, laundry and other housework. They would be welcome to help my mother in her garden should they wish to, though this is definitely not an expectation. Pay and conditions We are offering a salary of £500 a week to be paid into your bank account weekly from the start date. You will have a private room. You would be entitled to a day off each week (usually a Thursday) and a minimum of 1 night off a week. In addition to board and access to our wifi, your meals will be included in the weekly shopping of the household. Despite the difficult circumstances, this is a happy and optimistic home, usually filled with visitors (though not so many at the moment!) and laughter. My parents are kind and compassionate people with a strong Catholic faith. We hope to find a carer who is looking for more than just a job and we hope that they will come to feel at home in this household. Please note: the house is strictly non-smoking though there is plenty of outdoor space. Applicants without an up to date criminal reference check, references and appropriate carer's insurance will not be considered. All relevant experience considered. Drivers licence very beneficial. *Due to COVID 19, we ask that the applicant take all precautions available to them in the week preceding the start date so as to minimise the risk of bringing the infection into our home. We have full PPE here and the expectation is that it will be worn for at least the first week within the house.
