A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join EDF Energy. The opportunity is within the PWR Technology function, which resides within EDF Energy's newly formed Technical Client Organisation business unit. The Technical Client Organisation brings together UK technical capabilities from across the existing EDF Energy businesses to support Hinkley Point C & Sizewell C nuclear new build projects and the Nuclear Generation business. The successful candidate will join a team of control systems engineers & instrumentation engineers working on the Hinkley Point C nuclear new build project. Join us as a Control Systems Engineer responsible for ensuring that the requirements relating to nuclear safety are defined and adequately addressed within the design, and that the design integrity is maintained throughout the lifecycle (i.e. from design to as-built operating plant). This is achieved by undertaking the Intelligent Customer activities associated with the specification, monitoring and acceptance of work performed by the Responsible Designer and various control systems equipment suppliers. Day to Day: * Provide technical oversight and acceptance of the Hinkley Point C high integrity software-based protection system or safety control systems (PLC based) throughout all phases of the development lifecycle (specification of requirements, design, manufacture, validation and commissioning) * Undertake technical review and acceptance of documentation * Support the resolution of technical and regulatory issues * Produce & review safety case documentation associated to the protection and/or safety control systems * Effectively plan and undertake surveillance activities * Provide oversight of verification and validation activities * Lead interactions with the Office for Nuclear Regulation * Participate in technical meetings * Provide input to, and approval of, non-conformances and design changes The Person Control Systems Engineer with senior stakeholder management skills, organisational skills and experience within Nuclear, will thrive in this role. What does being a great Control Systems Engineer at EDF mean?: * Stakeholder Management: You're able to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including project managers, suppliers and regulatory bodies (in particular the ONR) * Health & Safety: You have knowledge of health & safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirement * Proactive Approach: You are able to work independently with a proactive approach * Project Commercial Awareness: You have a good overall project commercial awareness * Quality Assurance: You have an understanding of the quality assurance requirements in a highly regulated environment The Skills * Degree (or equivalent) in relevant engineering discipline * Chartered engineer status would be desirable * Experience of working in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industries * Experience in design, substantiation, verification & validation, safety justification of high integrity software-based protection and/or safety control systems * Knowledge of nuclear sector standards applicable to the development of high integrity software-based protection and safety control systems (including BS EN 61513, BS EN 60880, BS EN 62138, BS EN 60987 and BS EN 61508) * Experience of the development of modern nuclear safety cases (including 'Production Excellence' and 'Independent Confidence Building Measures' aspects) * Knowledge of 'Independent Confidence Building Measures' such as statistical testing and static analysis techniques * Experience in liaising with the Office for Nuclear Regulation or other regulatory bodies * Experience in application of ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) * Sound judgement and decision making * Ability to influence stakeholders to gain commitment and achieve results * Listening and communicating clearly to establish common understanding * Excellent organisational skills * Working knowledge of French language an advantage Competitive Salary & Benefits We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a defined benefit pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.
