The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive professional clinical and preventive nursing care to patients in an outpatient clinic within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) in support of primary care operations. Responsibilities Provides comprehensive professional nursing services of an advanced nature requiring critical thinking skills. Performs procedures, treatments, and medication administration. Provides health education/coaching to patients, significant others, and/or family members/caregivers. Participates in continuing education programs and engages in evidence-based improvement projects to update and/or maintain skills and advance clinical practice. Provides oversight and mentorship to paraprofessional and newly assigned staff. Executes approved Clinical Support Staff Protocols (CSSPs) IAW local guidance providing coordinated care for high volume, low or high risk symptoms and/or diagnoses. Click here to view: Qualification Standards BASIC REQUIREMENT: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a wide range of direct patient care services sufficient to perform highly specialized assignments of an advanced nature and considerable difficulty, requiring extended specialized training and experience; knowledge of professional nursing care theories, principles, practices, procedures, illnesses, and disease processes to perform the full range of nursing care for patients from birth through geriatric; knowledge of pediatric growth and development principles and anticipated well child milestones; knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders as they relate to oncology, neurology, cardiovascular, thoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopedic, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, urology, neurosurgical, obstetrics and gynecology; anticipated complications and indicated therapeutic intervention. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Extensive knowledge of a wide range of professional nursing concepts, principles, theories, and practices to perform highly specialized nursing duties of an advanced nature and considerable difficulty requiring complex critical thinking skills to care for patients. Extensive knowledge of a broad range of ambulatory care evidenced-based standards and clinical practice guidelines, military and occupational health-related standards and requirements, and applicable governmental/regulatory agencies. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of the patient's condition, including diagnosis, process, and acknowledgement of teaching and follow up care.
